1. Goatee? Dude.
Not even... :P

Goatees are going to prove the Pet Rock of male grooming circa 1990-2006. :-)

2. At least a soul patch, or clean-shaven.
the 'stache just spells "pederasty," IMO.

Only on Ray Charles or Stevie Ray Vaughan.

And I'm not even so sure about Stevie Ray...

92. Slight difference
A pedophile wants children sexually.
A pederast wants anal sex with children, and usually boys.

But you have to have the right kind of face for them: :-)

17. UNFAIR! Dirty tricks! Underhanded tactics!
We're talking about mere mortals, here, not Johnny Depp!

:spank:

Besides, isn't that more-or-less a beard that's just kind of sparse and scanty? I used to have that, too, when I was about 20 -- it never grew in between the 'soul patch' area and the rest of it, and people started telling me I looked like Che Guevara. And thus ended my experiment in beardism...really, I just did it 'cos I wanted to quit shaving, once and for all. :-)

Some facial structures support that. :7

True. JD admits he can't grow a full beard; it doesn't make him any less heart-stopping.

I looked like Che Guevara. And thus ended my experiment in beardism... LOL at the new word. But on the bright side, you'd be immortalized by millions of revolutionaries and wanna bes today.

As for your smiley, only if you can catch me! ;-)

He must be routing the full force of his testosterone elsewhere, I guess. :evilgrin;

I think his facial structure would support just about anything, actually. :-)

But I bet I looked more like Che. :P

26. Moustaches
I don't have one. :-)

But I did, for most of my 'adult' (and I use the term loosely) life. When I took off that short-lived Che beard I mentioned above, I took it off in pieces as I posed in front of the mirror -- you know, handlebar moustache, then further trimming to Village People moustache. I had to go to a class right when I got it trimmed down to something a tiny bit tighter than the Magnum PI moustache and so I thought I'd keep it like that for my class and then come back from university and shave it off, returning my face to its naked splendor.

Twenty years later, I finally shaved it off.

And, yes, I couldn't resist pausing at the Hitler-moustache point, that night. Not a good look for me, I must say.

Man, I just couldn't stop staring at my face when I cut that thing off, too. It looked weird. I barely recognized myself, and for a few day I was very self-conscious of my nakedness. I looked really, really strange to myself. To myself more than to anyone else who knew me. Took me a while to get used to it, I'll say. Definitely made me look younger, though -- almost disturbingly so -- and the dye I began to employ cut even more years off what some perceived my age to be.

My real answer to your original question is that I was the kind of guy who didn't give a f*** what anyone thought of my appearance. :D

And then there are all those porn films I'm in, but that's another story...

I wish my father would grow his beard back, though --he had it 20 years ago and looked like an old sea dog (he was, at the time), in an almost Old-Testament way. It really suited him, a lot.

53. Hey! I love 'staches!
I also adore full, neatly-trimmed beards. They're sooooo sexy!
Goatees aren't bad, either... but it has been my observation that they are preferred by gentlemen intent on trying to hide their double/triple chins.

Besides, it ain't about facial hair... it's about the person inside that makes all the difference.

59. Alright now
I know there's gotta be some alright people still sporting just the 'stache. At least some of the older guys who lived through the era when the stand-alone 'stache was in style. Like another poster mentioned above, I do know a couple men who have kept them because they want to keep facial hair and aren't allowed to have a full beard at their job.

Besides, stand-alone mustaches do look better on some men than "soul patches" do. Not that that's necessarily saying a lot!

Myself, I'd have a mustache, with a full beard, if I could grow one. All I could grow was something along the lines of the mustache/beard with no connectors that Johnny Depp is sporting in that picture a few posts up. And I didn't look like Johnny Depp with it! For one thing, my facial hair is a blend of blond, brown, and reddish hairs, which makes it look even patchier than it already is when I grow it out. Plus, the lack of a "connector" really makes a difference. A mustache/goatee combination seems to look much better if the two are not separate entities!

It's ironic how so many guys out there who have no interest in having facial hair could grow full beards if the wanted, but a lot of guys who'd like to have facial hair can't pull it off. (Speaking from personal experience here.) If only I could have less hair on my back and more on my face... haha (Too much information; I know, I know...!) :-)

Oh well, if I can't pull off the facial hair by the time I'm twenty-five I'll throw in the towel for good.

66. My husband has a mustache.
We've been married going on 12 years, and I used to nag him to shave it, just so I could see what he looked like without it. He finally did, and it was AWFUL!! Thankfully, it grew back pretty quick.

Don't dis the staches, man. Some men wear them extremely well!

:D

94. I agree - My husband looks nice in his stache as well
My husband has gone through the whole thing. He has a stache now. When the Marlins won the World Series in 1997 he wanted to look like all of them (it was funny) he wore the goatee. When we got married, he had a full beard. Now he has a trim mustache that is very sexy!

sure it was part of a halloween costume, and I was Gomez Addams, and i had to pencil it in because I have red upper lip hair, but it looked sweet.

my girlfriend made me shave as soon as we got home from the concert we went to (in costume, she was Morticia)

95. Sometimes my friends grow them as a joke, or as part of a contest.
(A "'stache off" if you will.)

Just thought I'd add another element to the great mustache debate.

Some of my friends used to do that. See who could grow the sleaziest 'stache and keep it the longest.

105. No. I think we both just have friends who are a certain kind of weird
The incident of a joke-stache was sported by a friend who lives on the west coast who I don't get to see often. He came to visit for Thanksgiving, walked in the door with his monster Tom Selleck moustache, and acted like he had no idea why I was cracking up. (he knew full well why, of course).

96. Sydney has a mo growing contest every year.
It's a charity thing. The Sydney Morning Herald usually runs a video clip on it. The contestants look anachronistic. I saw a clip last week, so you still might be able to find it.

When I've shaved beards, I kept the mo. But not long - perhaps a whole week.

97. Other - Guys Like Me
I've had a moustache since i was 16. It's a part of who i am. I'm not shaving it because some people think they're not fashionable. I'm not wearing it for them.

I like it. My wife likes it. Good enough for me.

BTW: I have a big, full, Saddam or Groucho style moustache. The guy in your picture needs to fill that one out a bit. Me, i always figure i'm going to be pulled out of line at the airport because i look like "one of them".
