I actually bought a country CD. That was rather awkward.
It wasn't for me of course, I got it for my mom for Christmas since I know she wants it. I just bought it at first like any other CD, then when checking out just before handing over the money I kind of awkwardly blurted out "it's for my mom.".

Of course, almost anyone can tell by looking at me that I'm not the type of guy likely to buy a country CD and that it wasn't for me. Now it probably looked like I was trying to cover up. Oh well.

Just because it's got that song Angels Among Us on it. I know she loves that song.

My power window is stuck in my car, every time I go to the toll booth, I have to drive past the booth, open the door, and practically dislocate my arm trying to give the attendant the change, with my seatbelt attached. For some strange reason, I feel the need to tell them that my window is broken - like there could possibly be any other reason that I would go through such contortions.

Edit: typo

14. Funny. And also like, with thousands of cars going through there each...
...day, you'd be the only one. But go figure. My window was broke that way one time, and I thought the same thing. Silly, isn't it...;-)

6. It's not all crap.
Buy any one of Johnny Cash's American Recordings CDs. You won't be disappointed. Or get his old Folsom Prison album. Great stuff. As commanding a storyteller as Bob Dylan--even when he sings someone else's songs.

I also like Mary Chapin Carpenter, especially her earlier stuff.

I just don't like the new country pop and country rock much--Big & Rich, Toby Keith, Brad Paisley. All pretty much lightweights.

7. It's just country music.
You make it sound like you were buying porn or condoms! ;)

There's a lot of good country music out there. You'll find it one day, even if it's against your will. Trust me.

9. That's a little pretentious
You shouldn't have to make an excuse just cause you're buying a country music CD. Good country music, and I will include Alabama, is a lot more authentic than most of the crap being recorded now.

Flame away, lounge.

13. Well, I hate opera
but I'm not about to tell someone else their taste is all screwed up for liking it. As much as I hate opera (and I worked in a classical music store for a year, so believe me, I tried), that's just plain arrogant.

15. I've never attended an opera
But I'm sure I will be able to get into good opera. But music is all subjective. It really irks me when people try to make themselves superior by dissing someone else's music.

23. I agree with Raging...
I mean, come on! Johnny Cash? Merle Haggard? Willie Nelson? George Jones? HANK FUCKING WILLIAMS?!

There's tons of great country out there. The problem is, most of it was done at least 30 years ago.

18. I dislike country mostly because I was forced to have it playing
continuously. I was a bartender in a casino in Nevada, and they required me to play CMT on the televisions. ugh.

It was in the new releases section, so I said 'fuggit'. It was a band called Little Texas. I guess they suck, because she wasn't happy at all!

25. Country music is great.
Johnny Cash, Hank Sr., George Jones, Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette, Ernest Tubb, Marty Robbins, Buck Owens, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, Jerry Jeff Walker, Kitty Wells, Jim Reeves, Jerry Lee Lewis sang a lot of great country songs ("She Even Woke Me Up To Say Goodbye")

now you may notice that most of these artists are no longer with us. I don't consider the current crop are playing country music at all. Chet Atkins was once asked to define the Nashville sound; he said it was the sound of a cash register opening. The spirit he described has killed all the artistry of a great genre.

28. I do that too.
I normally despise country music, but every once in a while I want to get a song (new or old, although usually an old one that is new to me.) I like Willie Nelson a lot and Dolly Parton, so I may get something that is totally out of my league. I live in a small town. People who know me would have a heart attack if I started listening to country. I can't let that happen. I don't want to be known as a serial killer or a heart disease. I have to clear things up rather quickly for that reason. I know the feeling. I can totally sympathize with you on this one.
