Any special holiday doings at your office?
Yesterday, our office was supposed to go to the Walnut Room at Marshall Field's for a Christmas Party/lunch. It's supposed to be a big deal....particularly since this is the last year that it will be Marshall Field's (it's going to be Macy's after next year). But, the Walnut Room was VERY crowded...a wait of more than 2 hours. So, we ended up going to the Frango Cafe in Marshall Field's instead. A bit of a letdown, but we had a good time anyway.

2. yes, and they are incredibly stupid
today, since we're in Boston (and my coworkers are extreme tools) we're having a red sox swap (get it, we don't call it a "Yankee" swap because we hate the yankees, hhahahahahahahahaha!). i didn't buy a gift because i'd rather spend the 20 bucks and get something meaningful for someone i love rather than fight a bunch of people i hate for a stupid gag gift that i'm going to feel guilty about throwing away. on the bright side, there will be free alcohol, so, while i'm not allowed to leave early during this hideous event, i can drown my sorrows on the man's dollar. ho-fucking-ho....

3. We're having a potluck lunch today...
and people were invited to bring in toys for the Walter Payton Foundation, which will distribute them to needy children. My food contribution is barbecued (in the oven) chicken.

In a few weeks, there will be some bash in a downtown restaurant that I intend to avoid.

12. Sweetness! What a nice idea!
At my old company, we spent a lot of money on a holiday party, and people just got drunk and misbehaved. The next year an asshole lobbied for "dinner-theater" at a "vegas-style" place that ended up being a "classy" (?) topless revue.

When it was my turn to pick, I found us two families through County Social Services, and we bought presents, clothes and food for them (we didn't know their names, just their genders and ages) and had a potluck like GAofT's company did. The two guys that pushed the topless-revue complained, but everyone else seemed to really enjoy it.

5. Holiday breakfast on Tuesday
Secret Santa gift exchange and pot luck lunch on Wednesday. We are a very small law firm of 7 people. We all get along and laugh like crazy. It's a great environment.

6. Our Holiday Party is Saturday
We changed it to the Holiday Party because we have a big mix of people here. We are a company that likes to be inclusive.

We are having the party at a hotel on the beach. The weather is supposed to be great for an outdoor party!

13. Gloating is not attractive, rockafowler
Most of us are dealing with either snow or slush, and are NOT interested in hearing about parties at the beach

B-)

11. Fancy-pants open bar party!!
One of the advantages of working for a Giant Evil Lawfirm is that they throw some slammin' parties. Last year it rented out that nice restaurant in Bryant Park for the party, and this year it's a fancy Italian restaurant. All you can eat and drink, with uniformed waiters and everything.

Yeah, so I'm excited, because I'm still a broke recently post-college kid and it's the only time of year anyone serves me anything on a tray that's not McDonalds!

14. *nodding* yup, we had our "pot luck", gift giving, card playing
holiday party yesterday too. It's enjoyable seeing what everyone gets for their presents, but I really don't care to associate with the office people anyway. Most don't think the way I do, and our conversations aren't interesting at all.

15. Mrs. XNASA's office had a big party at a local country club last weekend.
Fifteen piece band/orchestra. Roast beef and stuffed chicken breast w/roasted potatoes and asparagus....

Huge ballroom that made me feel that I was in some kind of castle in Scotland. The fireplaces on either side were big enough to stand up in. Very posh.

And....an open bar with top shelf liquor and wines.

So I got drunk.

17. On Monday, there will be a catered barbeque luncheon.
I won't be there because I'm using up vacation time. Doesn't bother me, since I am a vegetarian anyway and the only things I would be able to eat would be the potato salad, cole slaw or baked beans.
