Poll question: Are flying cars overdue?
There are those among us who think the true transition to
the 21st Century should have been heralded by a "flying
car" for the masses.

On Thanksgiving a friend shared their pecan pie with chocolate and a liqueur added.

Yum!

4. Never happen ...
until you take the human element out of controlling the aircraft.

People have a hard time controlling a car in 2 dimensions at reasonable speeds.

Now take our current ground traffic, and put it up in the air. Cars would literally be dropping out of the sky.

Cheers
Drifter

18. Yeah, I'm sure we'll have our share of accidents...
Due to people painting their toenails while flying.

But! Think of the opportunities for Natural Selection!

It'll make for interesting shows on FOX too... "When Good Flyers Go Bad".

Think of the RATINGS!

:woohoo:

25. The better quote is from Lord Kelvin....
"I can state flatly that heavier than air flying machines are impossible", said that in 1899, in 1903 the Wright brothers put that one out to pasture. Though in all fairness by 1899 Kelvin was a bit off his rocker.

I've had one for several years! No one else can see it; I got the one with a cloaking device, as well.

Didn't the Fantastic Four have one in the comic too?

*hangs head* All I could afford is a balsa wood and rubber band flyer.

20. Ironic part is...
it's harder to make a car that drives itself than a plane that flies itself. Mostly it's a matter of traffic and traffic flow that makes cars harder. Also planes already come with all the data collection and outputs you need. There are autopilots that can take care of a flight from take off to landing.

10. Flying bicycles
That's what we need, mate. Early in the century, a Brasilain, Alberto Santos-Dumont had a flying bicycle/dirigible. He'd fly to a cafe and have a drink. Then ascend and fly home.

29. Close enough for me!
There was also the Gossamer Condor made from balsa wood, bike parts, styrofoam, and
sheet plastic.

The downside for that craft was it required more stamina than an average ground lubber
could muster.

You might be able to fly it, however! ;)

32. There was also Daedalus...
another human powered airplane that came a bit after Gossamer Albatross. Daedalus flew from Crete to mainland Greece following the flightpath of Daedalus from mythology. Took some oomph to get airborn but less than the Gossamer Albatross. There's a nice prize waiting for the first person to get a human powered helicopter flying. Gone unclaimed for about twenty years now.
