CNN poll: Do aliens abduct humans?
74% of responders say no.
26% say yes.

www.cnn.com

Of course, the real issue is not whether aliens are abducting us - they probably want nothing to do with such an immature race.
The real issue is
hey what the heck is that bright light? Stop! Let go. No. NO NOOOOOO STOP LET ME GO! ! ! ! !

1. The fact that 1 out of 4 people believe this crap...
Speaks volumes.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to photograph the Loch Ness Monster. I hear Elvis is keeping it in the pool of his summer home in the Bermuda Triangle.

2. Cool, say hi to Elvis for me.
Notice how close that figure is to the support the president gets? Is that a coincidence?

5. Will do.
And as for the percentages, what's that phrase attributed to Lincoln -- "You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time. But you can't fool all the people all the time."

I guess 26%-38% is the percentage of the population that can be fooled all the time. (26 being from the poll, 38 being the president's approval rating)

8. There's an Aldous Huxley lecture online somewhere
where he talks about that. (I think it was after WW2 and making reference to the Nazi's but I honestly can't remember.) He was basically arguing (from some recent studies) that around 1/3 of the population are incredibly susceptible to suggestion, something that political leaders and corporations make great hay out of.

14. thanks for the reminder. Huxley was right on point.
Now, as to the suggestion that Aldous was himself an alien, that is an issue that will be difficult to resolve.

6. I voted yes!!!
But I did it to sway the poll (bad me). Seriously though - I don't know about abductions, but I'm convinced I saw a UFO once. Really. ;)

7. You ever lie on an online poll before?
I think people clicking "yes" are doing as more of a joke than anything....

Don't believe everything you see on the Internets...

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to catch the aforementioned flight to Bermuda

3. I'm sure that 26% number corresponds closely to the % of people who
secretly like putting things in their butt.

10. I'd say Dick Cheney is an alien.
That's why they want to turn the atmosphere into a carbon dioxide/methane mixture - it's what their race thrives on. They don't need to abduct us - they're shapeshifters!

;)

12. Them aint no aliens, them are government agents doing the abducting.
I know 4 different fighetr pilots personally who feel they saw a UFO in a four ship once. It was a refueling mission back when they used to let the wives go up as a special thing. They saw it as well and so did the KC-135 crew. Even had it on some of their radar.

Later everyone was told if you know what's good for your careers you know that being ordered into psych evals is bad for your career. Everything was dropped and whenever I tried to bring it up people got really annoyed.

I have also seen with my two eyes and witnesses objects that defy description twice.

On abductions I have no idea, on UFOs there is a lot more to be debunked than many cynics believe.

13. We Do Not Abduct Humans
I guarantee you. That's the last thing we need to do. Geez, we've been living amongst you, observing, since your mid-18th century. What purpose would an abduction serve?

18. No, that would violate Interplanetary Treaty X-4469
So we abduct them ourselves, then ship them to off-world detention/torture centers run by aliens.
