Poll question: Favorite off-beat or lesser-known superhero:
Yes we all know the biggies, Superman, Spiderman, the Tick, but what are our favorite lesser-known or oddball super heros?

4. There's no need to fear - Underdog is here!
When criminals in this world appear,
And break the laws that they should fear,
And frighten all who see or hear,
The cry goes up both far and near for
Underdog,
Underdog,
Underdog,
Underdog.

Speed of lightning, roar of thunder,
Fighting all who rob or plunder
Underdog, Underdog.

When in this world the headlines read
Of those who's hearts are filled with greed
And rob and steal from those in need.
To right this wrong with blinding speed goes
Underdog,
Underdog,
Underdog,
Underdog.

Speed of lightning, roar of thunder,
Fighting all who rob or plunder
Underdog, Underdog.

-Sounds like we could use Underdog in DC these days

24. Bat Manuel, from the short-lived Fox show The Tick.
The Tick was played by Putty from Seinfeld who now does the voice of Joe the handicapable cop on Family Guy.

Arthur the moth man was thin and had a backpack that sprouted his wings when he needed to fly as opposed to strapping solid wings onto the roof of his Mercury Bobcat when not needed. He also has a super crime-fighting lair with a special super couch that transforms into a bed.

The other two regulars were made-up just for the TV series. There was the Don Juan wannabe, Bat Manuel whose gauntlets and belt buckle were emblazoned with his "B.M." logo. He also has a cape that looks like some summer camper's leather project. Captain Liberty was the C.I.A. connected and super-needy (or super-wanty) ultra-vixen.

Edited on Fri Dec-16-05 03:44 PM by Tom_Foolery

Faster that a streaking rocket! Speedier than a flash of light! It's Fearless Fly! Possessed of a super strength so powerful: no fly swatter can harm him; no fly paper can hold him; no insecticide can stop him. Always careful not to reveal his true identity, Fearless Fly hides from view as he removes his glasses, which generate millions of megatons of energy through the sensitive muscles in his head and becomes a meek, mild, passive little fly known as Hiram."

47. Dangermouse - the White Wonder
http://www.dangermouse.org/ - in fact he beats Superman, Spiderman et al. totally into the ground; not least because of the slightly odd commentary running in the background (which proves that cartoons aren't really meant for children anyway).

Also an honourable mention for Bananaman - http://www.80snostalgia.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Reviews&file=index&req=showcontent&id=68

51. I'll see your Dangermouse & Bananaman & raise you Super Ted and Super Gran

This is a story about an ordinary teddy bear.
When he was made, they found something wrong with him.
And threw him away like a piece of rubbish into an old dark storeroom
Then, from outer space, a spotty man, brought him to life with his cosmic dust.
He took him to a magic cloud where Mother Nature gave him special powers
That bear became SUPERTED!

http://www.jedisparadise.co.uk/childrenstv/Superted/Superted.htm

Stand back Superman, Iceman, Spiderman, Batman Robin too,
Don't wanna cause a ruckus with B A Barracus have I got a match for you,
She makes them look like a bunch of fairies, got more bottle than united dairies,
Hang about, look out for supergran.

You can stick your heroes, your Robert De Niro's, Al Pacino too,
Lex Galone's just another phoney, couldn't lace her shoes,
After her they're all big girls' blouses, got more front than a row of houses,
Hang about, look out for Supergran.
Sup-Sup Supergran,
She's a serious granny,
Sup-sup Supergran,
a serious granny, she'll do the things that you never saw your granny do ...
is there nothing that she cannot do?

On your bike Wonderwoman, lets just say you had it coming, this one is for real,
Charlies angels pack it in before it gets embarrasing, this lady's solid steel,
She comes on strong like a Bengal lancer, she makes you all look like a bunch of chancers,
Hang about, look out for Supergran.
Sup-sup Supergran,
Hang about, look out for Supergran.
Sup-sup Supergran,
Sup-sup Supergran,
Sup-sup Supergran,

52. I only recently read about him, but already I love "Ant Man"
A couple of months ago, news came out that Edgar Wright (the director of Spaced and Shaun of the Dead) would be directing "Ant Man". A spot of googling & I found this excellent history of the character which is really, really interesting and pretty funny to boot.

(...)

Thanks to his insect pals, Ant-Man learns that the creature Kosmos is composed primarily of formic acid, and quickly puts together an antidote, which he packs into shotgun shells and loads up into a 12-gauge. Of course, he still makes his ants crawl the shotgun across town instead of just hopping into a cab, but I guess if you?re Ant-Man, you gotta make the whole operation feel important.
