This just might be the BEST DAY EVER!
Okay, so today is my birthday. My husband went shopping yesterday for my b-day and for Christmas gifts for me. We talked about maybe doing our gift exchange on Saturday since we both have the day off together which happens very rarely--and we can NEVER wait until closer to Christmas to do our presents. Well, I hurried home last night to wrap his gifts that I've had stashed here at work. When he got home, we caved and opened presents right after dinner. I knew everything I was getting except for the awesome K-State business card holder he got me.

How does that make today so great? Well let me tell you.

I woke up this morning, excited because it's my birthday and we're going to the bars tonight; something we almost never do and when we do go, it's usually just to hang out with friends and drink soda until it's time to come home. So, I'm psyched that this year we actually get to do something out of the ordinary to celebrate AND I can hardly wait to get to work so I can put my new business card holder to use. I've wanted one for 2 years and the one he picked out is different than any I've ever seen so that just adds to the 'cool-ness' of it.
So I'm working away, busy busy, finally get to go to lunch and see that I have two voice mails on my cell phone. My mom-in-law AND my aunt-in-law have called and left me b-day messages! I expected it from my MIL, but never in a million years from the aunt. Yay, that's awesome!
So, I go out to my car and lay the seat back hoping to be able to take a quick nap; I'm so exhausted and I know I want to be up late tonight. Well, I was actually able to fall asleep for a good 40 minutes so I feel great now!
I come back in to work, and my husband calls. He sounds like he's in a much better mood than he was this morning and I ask him how his last final went.

...

He says he couldn't care less, he's got 82 bucks in his pocket and isn't worried about any final. Then, before I could even say "huh?" he says, "I had 90 but I picked up some Bacardi 03 and I'm having a drink before I go to work." (He's got 3 hours)
He took his last final, it went well, and then he sold his text books back.

It's now officially Christmas/Holiday/Winter Break, we're off work tomorrow, we're going out tonight with enough money (MORE than enough) to actually buy some drinks without worrying about finances, the in-laws have made my day by calling me, and I haven't had such a great day in a long time!

And I owe part of my happiness to DU for the Birthday wishes first thing this morning. You guys are the best!

Thanks for letting me share, I don't have anyone here at work to be excited with. And BTW, it's taken me almost an hour to type this I've been so busy, but today I don't even care!

I feel like your avatar, like a goofy monkey jumping around!

5. I'm glad you're having such a great birthday!
Happy Birthday to you, cfield!

This ought to make it even better: The Senate Repukes caved on extending the Patriot Act. :bounce: Americans are finally coming around to the notion that you can hunt terrorists without giving up your civil liberties.

10. That does!
I haven't had any time to check on the news today, or all week for that matter. I'm so glad to hear that, the damn Act has been pissing me off for too long. Thank you Senate! Glad you're waking up!

11. Merci!
It should be great; I just hope I can stay awake-my normal bed time is 9:30 or 10. I stocked up on some energy drinks so I should be fine!

7. Happy birthday
Mine was yesterday. I'm eating leftovers from my dinner and trying to figure out who was the joker who called the fire department for all the candles on the cake.

13. Thank you,
after the rest of the week I wasn't sure. Especially with having one of my staff gone and having to fill in for her while doing my normal work also. It's going suprisingly well, and fast!

Wow, I feel so redundant. Thank you all for the wishes; I didn't expect all of this. I was just so glad to be having a good day I wanted to share.

Thanks again!

15. If you can get excited by a business card holder, life is good
I am not being in any way sarcastic. My S.O. marvels at my own ability to be thrilled by the little things in life. I can spend the whole day happy if my lunch was tasty beyond expectation. He gave me a little blue-and-white enamel "State" pennant pin from a flea market ($15), and it's my favorite piece of jewelry.

"We have $82 bucks in his pocke and isn't worried about the final". It's that attitude and that attitude alone that will lead to a happy life (this has actually been proven by Beck, Seligman, et al)

I see good things ahead for you two.

I am constant amazed by the dissatisfaction of my well-off friends who have amazing jobs, big houses in good neighborhoods, fat bank accounts and healthy kids. But they want MORE money, a BETTER job, more AMBITIOUS kids, a BETTER marriage, a thinner body, better hair, younger faces.....Enough!!! It should be enough to be HAPPY with a well-shaped Christmas tree, nice dry wood for the fire, enough to eat, and good friends.

But enough ranting - get out there and enjoy your birthday, cfield!!!

18. You've got it so right
I had asked for a business card holder the last couple of years, and when he told me to pick one out so he knew which one to get, I never could. They were all nice, but I always decided I'd rather take the 15 or so dollars for one and get something else. (I have a generic wood one that was provided by the bank I work at.) I put one on my list this year, but on the one I gave his mom, just because I couldn't think of anything I really wanted or needed and knew I'd be happy to get a K-State one after wanting it for so long. Even though I didn't really *really* want one, it would just be cool.
So I was so excited to get it from him, because I hadn't even mentioned to him that I'd like one in so long; he thought of it by himself. And, it's a totally unique design we'd never seen before so I'm just loving it!

Also, the 82 bucks, that's so great because we had agreed that we'd each have a couple of drinks to celebrate but knew we couldn't have too much. Well, we won't spend nearly 80 dollars, but knowing that we have it and it's not needed for bills or anything, that's the best feeling; we very VERY rarely have an extra 30 bucks to go out and do something out of the ordinary so this is great. And he had such a rough week with finals--it just came at the best time!

I'll quit blabbing, but thank you for the message. You're right about being happy with the little things. I hope you have a great weekend too!

19. Losing the P.A. has only compounded

on the list of things to celebrate today! I don't know if my husband has heard yet, but we'll be able to high five each other on that one!

Edit to add, I think I'll have a Bel Fast Bomber to celebrate that. It's better than a shot and much more meaningful! A shot just wouldn't do justice to something so awesome!

PS Condolences on your loss this year. We didn't mean to beat you.

Okay, so we did, even if it didn't matter to our season. What a win! Woo Hoo 'Cats!
