Poll question: How many of you have an MBA?
Edited on Fri Dec-16-05 03:30 PM by Squatch
Just curious.

Also, if you have one, how has it helped you in your professional growth?

1. 'Workin' on an MBA'
The Foremen
Words and music by Roy Zimmerman © 1993 Watunes (BMI)
(From the original "Folk Heroes" on Metaphor Records)

Workin'!
Workin'!
Workin', workin', workin', workin', workin', workin', workin', workin'
Workin'!

The sun comes up, another day in the mine
You're up at 7:30 and in class by 9
You're pushin' them papers, you're draggin' that pen
You study or you party 'til God only knows when
You go to bed, get up and do it over again
Workin' on an MBA

Work all day, work all night
Work all the next day and that night, too
Work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work
Graduate with honors and start makin' the big money

Well, the econ professor is a pompous old ass
And you better be good at puckerin' if you're hopin' to pass
You're takin' them hard knocks, you're payin' them dues
Don't get no Christmas bonus, you don't share no revenues
Oh Lord, here comes another arrogant asshole to schmooze
Workin' on an MBA

Work all day, work all night
Work all the next day and that night, too
Work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work
Plunge into an orgy of material acquisition

Oh Lordy, it's a long, hard journey
You're getting' shin splints, tennis elbow and a herniated disc
You may be wheeled to graduation on a gurney
But you'll be proud to say,
"Hey, world... I'm not an attorney!
I'm an MBA! I'm an MBA! I'm an MB-"

Well, you hang around with a lot of supercilious folks
And you don't know which is staler — is it the donuts or the jokes?
Gotta finish that spreadsheet, gotta click in that clique
You're so uptight, you haven't taken a leak in a week
And the only part of you that gets any sleep is your left butt cheek
Workin' on an MBA

Work all day, work all night
Work all the next day and that night, too
Work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work
Graduate with honors and start makin' the big money
Plunge into an orgy of material acquisition
Ascend the corporate ladder unless you're Hispanic, black or a woman
Workin' on an MBA

7. the econ professor???
Hey, I resemble that remark. Well, almost. I am but a humble former graduate student teaching intro macro. Okay, maybe not so humble either.

3. I almost went for an MBA, but
my undergraduate grades sucked bad so I was going to have to pass the MBA entrance exam. Is that the GRE? I think that's what this business college required. It just seemed so rigorous I shudder.

Now, I'm a teacher. I hope I'm helping the kids.

8. No MBA. No interest in an MBA. No interest in more formal education.
Edited on Fri Dec-16-05 05:19 PM by bertha katzenengel
No need for a college degree. No need for night classes, weekend classes, correspondence courses.

All the education I need for the rest of my life I can get on my own, because I am lucky enough to know how to read, lucky enough to possess a working brain, lucky enough to be CURIOUS. Lucky enough to live where most books are revered just for what they are. Lucky enough to live where in most places there are still free libraries.

I don't need an advanced degree to get what I need in this world. And I for god damned sure don't need whatever prestige is supposedly attached to parchment. (That last is no comment on OP)

9. I have a MS, not an MBA and have no plans on getting one
Corporate type atmospheres drive me nuts.
