1. Hey, I think I just got one of those things for my birfday.
It weighs about as much as a decent chocolate bar. Haven't had a moment to make nice with it yet but am looking forward to it.

I bet they'll love it!

I don't know what to get my kids. They're men now and have moved into the mystery world.

lol

2. Mine are grown too
This is the first year ever they will be getting just one present.

I think they will like them. I wasn't planning on getting this model with the video capability but I found out at apple.com they give teachers discounts. In fact, you don't really have to be a teacher. They just ask for the name of a school. Pretty cool, eh?

So I saved 30% off the retail cost.

4. Wow! That's a good deal.
So, you're into the one present phase.

We are, too. I've lots of ideas for my oldest but his brother sort of baffles me. It was easier in a funny way when I bought them several things and crossed my fingers.

But, nooooooooo, they had to grow UP.

@ssholes!

6. Isn't it sad?
But it sure made Christmas easier. So there is an upside to their getting older.

I also need to thank evlbstrd. He told me he was buying these for his kids and that inspired me.

42. Apple's Student/Teacher Discount is AWESOME!

You can save TONS of money that way. That's what I did.

You just have to be currently enrolled in school... BUT... it can be a single class, AND it can even be a one day "seminar" type class at a local tech school. I enrolled for a one day seminar at a local technical college, honestly, for the sole purpose of getting the discount to buy a Mac. Because I am a Mac addict/snob. But anyway. Check this out:

The "class" had a tuition rate of $12.00. While thusly "enrolled" in the school, I took my student ID number and used it for a student discount on my laptop, saving $300. Then I bought Creative Suite 2 software for $200., when it is regularly $2,000., and Microsoft Office (the Standard Edition) for $80. when it is usually $350. Apple also had a special offer at this time, so I got a FREE iPod mini with my Mac purchase. THEN my school cancelled the class, so I even got my $12.00 tuition refunded.

SWEET!!! And, by the way, perfectly legit.

*Hint on the software purchase: What one school advertises or has in stock isn't always the only software available for the discount. See what other schools have, you can also buy it from them; you don't have to be THEIR student, just A student (at an accredited school) to make the purchase and get the discount. ALSO - I got a better discount buying software through the schools than I would have by buying the same thing directly through my local Apple dealer.

Joyfully spreading Mac addiction,

DA

43. All they asked me for is a zip code and school name
I have bought computers from apple with a teacher discount and they wanted my employee number, etc but this purchase was much easier.

But excellent.

Every Apple student discount purchase I ever made, they always wanted:

1. Photo ID
2. Student ID number
3. Name of school

45. I know because for years we didn't have employee numbers in my district
and I had to have my district send apple a letter verifying my employment to get their discount.

Her house is much quieter than mine.

My kids can't afford to move out. I am thankful we can afford to let them stay at home. But there are moments. grrrr Like just a minute ago when the phone rang - at midnight!!

17. Mine is a family of immigrants, and we've come full circle since
1954.

At first, we had five adults and a kid in three bedrooms. Then, there was the boom and the upward mobility and everyone got their own spread. Then things got more and more difficult. My kids have a much harder economy to deal with than I did when I was their age.

Have a good night, proud@Blib.

9. OMG, it's a genuine true to life gadget. I KNOW they'll like that.
Edited on Sat Dec-17-05 12:49 AM by Jamastiene
I always got so excited when I got an electronic gadget for Christmas. I didn't care if it was a science kit or a blinking picture, I was ecstatic over it.

Your kids are lucky. I want some music software for Christmas but cannot afford it.

After you adopt me, can I have it next Christmas if I am good? :sarcasm:

27. What will I be burning is more like it.
I can cook a few nice dishes, but I tend to burn Rice-a-Roni. I love that stuff, but cooking it myself has turned into a challenge. Unless my aunt stands directly over me and lets me show her the vermicelli along the way, I'll either under cook it or burn it. I'm still working on getting the hang of it.

CMW is a Buddhist, and "Om mani padme hum" is the most common mantra in Tibetan Buddhism. It's difficult to translate.

Here's some info: http://www.dharma-haven.org/tibetan/meaning-of-om-mani-padme-hung.htm
