I made pregnant woman cry...on a walmart argument
There's this guy at work...he owns a "dollar" store as well as this job. And like, it's failing,..... a shame. He sunk $80,000 of his money into it and it's gonna go titters. And, myself, my Dad didn't know he had a family because he worked 16 hours a day trying to feed us selling stationary at his own business.
So this girl is going on about how she has a kid and one on the way and Wal-mart sells Diapers cheap.
We're going on about how WM is BS and the one guy is going strong case his wife hasn't taken a paycheck in months on account of the business doing bad cause people bitch about WM being cheaper... I was backing him up cause of reasons stated previously.

Out of nowhere she just gets up in tears and leaves.
Whatever, this is no good sez I. Then during secret Santa my card says all these gooey things and is signed by her.

I feel like shit. The whole time she was kinda smiling, then outa nowhere..No idear it was hitting her hard. I like this woman alot, she's cool.

I just picture her telling her husband tales of drunkeness and cruelty. I have a phonecall to make.

Thoughts?

1. Make the phone call... and it will be okay. Don't wait though, Do it as
soon as you can.

"I'm really sorry I made you cry..." You don't need to re-hash the debate at all.

I've put foot in mouth before, it feels really bad. The sooner you make amends, the better for both of you and your friendship.

I'm sorry you feel so bad.

2. write her a nice thank you note for the card
and tell her you like her alot that she's cool.

Perhaps remind her of what Rainman said at the end "Kmart sucks". Truthfully I am not sure the Dollar stores are much better than Wal-mart, especially if they are running a franchise business. If he was managing a Wal-mart instead of working for way, way below minimum at his own store, he would be making $80,000+ a year.

4. Is this one of those Paul Harvey "The Rest of the Story" deals
where we find out, after the commercial break, that it's your baby she's carrying?

5. Buy her a stock of diapers for Christmas
Edited on Sat Dec-17-05 09:26 AM by The Flaming Red Head
The ones for the newborn come about 40 to a pack. I forget how many they use a day but man was it alot. Surprise her!

Edited to add I am so glad I'm not in her shoes. babies are great as long as they belong to someone else.

6. I agree with The Flaming Red Head Below....
Buy her a thing of diapers for Christmas. They ARE expensive.

Also remember that pregnant women are a mass of raging hormones and tend to be emotional. She's tired, possibly still having morning sickness and generally feeling not her usual self. Make the phone call, apologize nicely and I think all will be forgiven.

9. As Jimmy Carr said:
I've learned through experience: I'd rather see a pregant woman standing on a bus than a fat woman sitting down, crying.

10. Well, I just called her
She said don't worry she wasn't "crying" she just left because if she got stressed out she could have gone into labour.

13. It reminds me of all the crass libertarians who praise walmart's business
methods and applauding them. They may bitch that walmart gets taxpayer money, but it won't stop 'em from looooooooving walmart and saying how we all have a choice as to where we work.

Gawd. I wish more of those libby fuckers would end up working for walmart and start whining about how they're being treated. Not that they'd notice, mind you. They love their ideals and how great walmart's business methods are, but the moment it affects THEIR lives do they complain it's not right. :eyes: Put them in the middle of the situation and they'll get confused between their beliefs that they're stuck in (independent thought being a crime, you know) and the reality of working for the folks they love so much, while being treated like dog feces BY them. Hello, they even complain NOW and don't realize it's because ofthe very things they adore, the damn fools...

The clock is ticking for us all anyway. Once our economy goes, we're all done for. And libertarians love offshoring too because it costs less. :eyes:

16.  Didn't anyone ever tell you to play nice?
Send flowers with a note of apology. And when you see her next be nice as hell.
