I'm officially old: Kids I used to babysit now have kids...
DH came into my business a couple of hours ago clutching some Christmas cards and sporting an evil smile. It seems that two of the kids I used to babysit (!) both had babies of their own this year.

Don't get me wrong. I'm thrilled for their parents, who are two of the nicest people I have ever had the opportunity to know. They will be wonderful grandparents. I'm also very happy for the couples involved; I know that they must be beyond happy. It is WEIRD, though, to remember these kids at 5 and 7 years old, and now they're parents?

Here's to Lola and Colin. :toast:

1. HeeHee.
The little ten-year-old that used to be my toddler's 'babysitter' (with us around) is now completing her second year of university!

Hey, I'm 47, but I feel 24 inside!

Here's to Lola and Colin!

I guess I do wear what I want these days, and I care less and less about what any particular person thinks about me.

I was so touched when one of the daddies involved (whom I babysat for many years,) invited me to his wedding. Now he has a son of his own. It seems I'll be bulk buying copies of "Love You Forever" this holiday season.

Maybe I should offer to babysit ;-) so Mom and Dad can get a quiet evening out.

10. Go for it. We are all suckers for traditions this time of year
Think it would be a very grand way to let him know you noticed he grew up ;)

4. I kind of know the feeling.
Many years ago I was part of a party that welcomed home a baby boy a few days after his birth. I found out now that he's finishing up college. (GROAN!)
Also.

Another boy who was born when I was entering college is now applying to colleges. Get this! He score way up on the SAT, and has been invited to apply to Harvard Univ.

Somebody get me my Geritol and cane!!!

5. I used to babysit little boy twins.
When they were about four.

They grew up to be great musicians, and one is dating a fairly famous female rock star. He plays guitar in her band.

6. I saw one of the kids I babysat on Jeopardy one night
I hadn't seen him for 20 years; but there was no mistaking him. His name was too unusual to have more than one from this area.

7. A woman I work with became a grandmother on Thursday...
She is ecstatic about it, of course.

But she is 9 years younger than I am. And by a freak of nature, I could still become a mother, if you know what I mean ;). Go figure.....

8. Yeah, it's all over the place now.
I became a mom at 40; my grandmother had my aunt at 45.

I know a little girl who is 8, and she has a niece who is 4 (Her mom had HER at 38), and her older, older brother had his own baby.

It's all good!

11. I'm there, too
>I could still become a mother, if you know what I mean<

The manager at the gym is young enough to be my son. He likes to visit with me while I'm walking on the treadmill ;-). It's a little weird. It's nice that he wants to chat with me, I enjoy it. I always wonder, though, if I should offer to bake him some cookies, or ask him if he's got clean socks...

14. About 5 years ago, I ran into a girl I used to babysit in Meijer's ...
We talked for a minute, I looked around for her mom, and she said, "I think 22 is old enough to drive myself to the store..." ;) I'm not getting any older, they just are. My daughter turns 16 in two months, and I don't think I'll be able to handle it. :hi:

16. Me too, but I don't know if it means that I am old
There are people who marry and have children fairly young where I grew up. It does not mean that I am old if the boy that I babysat when he was 10 and I was 15 fathered a baby at age 20.
I read my hometown newspaper and see people who I knew as little children getting engaged or married. I actually think that the average marriage age in my home area has gone down. It seems that people who don't further their education are more often marrying out of high school or within a couple of years and people who go to college are marrying right after college. As someone who married right after college though, I guess that I should not criticize that decision.
