Went for a casting call in a low-budget movie yesterday.....
The working title is "Ballast"-set in the Mississippi delta. Directed by Lance Hammer who also did an award winning short-subject "Issaquena". The story deals with a pair of young black male twins, one of who dies.

During my 3 hour wait for an interview I met a delightful female Democrat from my home county. She's an activist and got my name and e-mail for future reference. She's writing a book and talking to her really made the time fly by.

My actual interview was brief but very positive and I was filmed all during it. Just so happens I knew the assitant director (she directed my partner in an amatuer production 15 years ago). They were pleased that I was availble 24/7 and asked if I'd ever tended bar (I have briefly) so I'm hoping the story has a role for a bartender!.

Production begins next month and I'm really excited. I've worked as an extra in two other films and both were a blast ("O' brother, where art thou?" and "The Ponder Heart").

Wish me luck!

5. Its just a hobby, but its interesting to learn how films are made....
The attention to detail is amazing. In both movies I've worked on, our costumes were authentic 1930's clothing (also uncomfortable as hell!)

10. My friend would like to get into the business whole time.
Uncomfortable? I worked as a journalist in Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Once a year they have a huge historical play, the whole town is participating. In order to get close and take pictures the journalists have to don medieval costumes, too. Heavy wool, stiff leather... I'M allergic to wool, and it was HOT. I'll never forget it :)

7. Really?
That's really cool that you got into "O Brother." What part, if not an extra, did you have?

8. Just an extra, but I got to work right beside George Clooney
for most of one 12 hour day. It was really a blast! I've never had a speaking role but I have some hopes that this film may provide that. What an experience that would be!

18. Thank you!
The Lounge moves so fast that its easy for threads to slip away without much notice. I want this one to last at least a little longer so I appreciate your help more than you know. Working in movies (even as the lowliest extra imagineable) is so much fun, I really wish everyone had a chance to do it.
