So...Have you seen "Chronicals of Narnia" ...How is it?
Did anyone watch the old 80's version on BBC? How did it compare to that? Did you feel the theater was filled with "Rapture Evangelical Christians" that made eating popcorn seem to LOUD for the quiet in the theater?

Is it any good for a Dem to go see?

1. I saw it, it was great.

I took my six year old, not great, LOL. There was one or two scenes that weren't appropriate for her. So they didn't childproof the film as much as they could have--but that is kind of a good thing, as I hate kiddie films.

It is WAY better than the BBC version, I cannot overstate how much better it is.

The only things that irritated me were that a)the writing could have been a bit better in terms of character development and b)Aslan's part should have been bigger, and c)it wasn't LOTR but it reminded me of it.

I really enjoyed the children, and that is a lot coming from me because usually kids in films irritate the fuck out of me. Tilda Swinton was wonderful, very, very good. I LOVED Aslan, his part was too small.

It wasn't as good as LOTR. But I found myself hoping for another one (which don't leave when the credits start!). It seemed to fly by, which is weird because it's over two hours (but I am used to Bollywood films, three hours, LOL).

As a Christian I saw the parallels, but I also saw them in LOTR. It wasn't heavy handed in that regard at all (which may be why Aslan's role was tinier than I expected).

2. My daughter and I also saw it.
It was good, but we both agreed that Harry Potter was much better, a different league actually. However, we did enjoy it.

3. I'd agree with that...I think....
I think that Narnia was better than the first Harry Potter, but the third HP looks to be much better than Narnia.

Narnia was a bit sterile....but I still liked it quite a bit.

than that one...I will probably love it.

5. No giant puppets, KoKo, just keep saying that to yourself, LOL.
I also really enjoyed the music, actually.

The ages of the boys are kind of different as well (seemed to me).

Oh, and cool behind the scenes stuff:

Tilda Swinton listened to Marilyn Manson's "Personal Jesus" to psych herself up for the battle scene.

They blindfolded the girl who played Lucy so that when she saw Narnia for the first time they'd get an authentic reaction.

6. It was pretty good
It's going to be impossible not to compare it to Star Wars, LOTR, and Harry Potter. There seems to be a scene ripped off from each of these three, which is probably unintentional but too bad nevertheless.

I thought it was fun to watch, and very pretty, but it was missing a little something with the emotional flow of the story. A few scenes, like the death of the major character who dies, weren't solemn but rather distracting due to the number of CGI critters running about.

I've got a thread about it in the fantasy literature forum which is seeking reviews, hint hint.

8. SO and I saw it today
We were both very impressed and loved it.

Extremely well done; conveyed the Christian allegorical elements without being too obvious most of the times. Well acted, well paced, VERY great film

Highly recommended.

10. Recommended. Even if you knew nothing of Christianity and the
Bible, it's just a very good story, well acted especially by the child actors.

I loved the books, will admit I was apprehensive to see it because of the Right Wing producer and the zealous promotion of the "Christian" angle, but was able to enjoy despite all this.

My wife and I were scanning the theater patrons to try to identify the Biblethumpers who were pushed into there by their church, before the movie started, though.
