Who knew vinegar was so wonderful?
Actually, tons of people knew. Why am I just *now* taking the marvelous advice to use vinegar as a cleaning agent?

I use hairspray in my bathroom when I do my hair. No matter how careful I am, it gets on the floor, making a film that traps dirt and dust and is harder than hell to get cleaned up. Cleaning that floor is a chore I dread, and it always takes a lot of time. I've tried just about every floor cleaner known to man.

Today, I used white vinegar in warm water with a scrub brush. I usually use regular floor cleaner and a scrub brush. It's a lot of time and effort for less than perfect results. Today, it took me about half the time, only a little elbow grease, and the floor is squeaky clean!

Silly, isn't it, to be so excited over a little vinegar? :D

2. oh,
i thought this was going to be a thread about how great vinegar tastes. i've been eating things pickled in vinegar with hot sauce or soy sauce my whole life. ate it all during my pregnancy as well and now my son is addicted. the smell, the thought of the smell makes my mouth water. and, yes, amazing it's cleaning powers. but, whenever i clean with it i want to lick the surfaces. i don't, but i want to. is that wrong?

9. I had vinegar cravings during both my pregnancies as well.
Especially for things like those little cocktail onions, and, yes, pickles. Salt 'n' vinegar -- yum. :9

20. Make sure to get real ones
There are two kinds: ones that contain "vinegar"--Cape Cod is the brand you'll find in the US--and ones that contain "sodium diacetate."

Sodium diacetate is used because it's a powder, and they can apply it to the chips with the same machine that applies the other flavors they sell. Vinegar takes a different setup on your machine.

The ones with actual vinegar taste much better.

3. I LOVE using vinegar...
so much better to clean with than chemicals. Of course I use clorox clean up when I do my kitchen, but other than that its 99% vinegar and water.

4. It cleans windows, too.
Just put it in a spray bottle (you can dilute it a little with water) and use it instead of Windex.

Not silly at all to get excited over a little vinegar. It's cheap and non-toxic. What could be better?

8. Have you discovered "The Queen of Clean?"
She recommends white vinegar as one of the 5 basic cleaning supplies everyone should have.

I can't swear by it, since I've not done any cleaning in months, but I do put Tang in my toilet. :P

14. Apple cider vinegar w/cool water is good for stripping the crap out of
your hair; the build-up from shampoos and styling products. It makes it feel nice and soft.

15. When my six kids were little messy tots
I could clear the kitchen if I used vinegar to mop. They wouldn't track through the wet floor at all, they thought the smell was so nasty.
:)

Edited on Mon Dec-19-05 11:33 PM by ashling
I dump a bunch of baking soda in the sink and then use either lemon juice or vinegar or both. Talk about scrubbing bubbles!
