Is it possible for a dog to be gay?
I'm taking care of my friend's male Pug named Orson - very cute 8 month old dog/puppy.

So, here's the deal - he likes to suckle on other male dogs' members, and he most definitely gets erect while he's doing it. I've seen this happen many times, and I've never seen him hump anything, so I'm guessing he's an orally fixated submissive.

Just yesterday I took him to a small dog playtime at a doggy day care near my house. He immediately zeroed in on one particular Spaniel, and just would not leave that doggie's dong alone. After a while the Spaniel came up to me, and I checked the name on his tag. I kid you not, the Spaniel was named Elton John Ping. Could there be a gayer name for a dog?

So what gives? Can a dog be gay?

Not that there's anything wrong with it, of course...

1. Not only is my cat gay, he dates outside of his species...
he used to get "frisky" with our rabbit. Who knew a Siamese would be a bottom?!

2. Very true about the Siamese!
Those cats are more the sorts to take charge of all situations.

But then many S/M bottoms are powerful Republican men by day who just want to give up some control at the end of the day.

And no, i did not just accuse your cat of being a republican! :)

3. Same gender sex play is pretty common among most animals
They do it without stigma or remorse

I wouldn't sweat it at all

It's NATURAL

6. I knew two dogs who...

My roommate and I both had male dogs. They licked each others genitals, one giving and one receiving, and alternating. I thought it was an interesting behavior. It was a real male bonding thing; they were good friends. I wouldn't be surprised if this was very common....AS MrScorpio says, it is sexual play between same sex partners.

7. Short answer: Yes.
Long answer: Yes, there have been studies that prove it and if you search for homosexuality in nature online, you can find many results that say they are too. Not to mention stories of wealthy zoo donors who have had to be "shielded" from the truth because of their conservative views because the animals were in the act when they came to visit. That's telling.

I once worked at a dog groomer's place and there were all sorts of shenanigans going on. When a family brought 2 family pets together and had no problem with it, we would put them in a larger enclosure together. Something about the bath would make 2 male dogs horny for each other. Also, two females were humping at one time too. Homosexuality in nature happens way more often than most homphobic people could or would ever be able to compute in their closed little minds. It's fact. You can take it to the bank. Eventually the people who hide this truth will be overridden and the truth will come out. Damn, when you think about the American mentality today, you realize that the puritans were party animals in comparison, but that's another subject.

9. We had a Springer Spaniel when I was a kid, and
a friend wanted him to breed with her bitch. We left him penned up with her for three weeks while she was in heat, and he never showed the slightest interest in her. My dad insisted after that that the dog was gay. (Irony: His name was Spike!)

10. Flea, a girl, humps her stuffed dog like mad and masturbates often.
usually when we have company, it's hilarious and gross. She pulls her toy out and drags it to the middle of the living room floor and goes to town on it. Very dominant doggie, that Flea.

16. Fleabert!
Why am I not surprised that your dog behaves in that manner in front of guests?

Miss you terribly my dear... hope you're doing great and things are better and better each day. :)

15. We've got an asexual tomcat
He and his brother showed up here about a year and a half ago when they were kittens, so we just fed them with the other outsidse cats.
I thought that when they got old enough they'de just wander off in search of females, like other toms I've had.
The brother disappeared, but Otro is still here shows no interest in anything other than food, I can't say he's gay, but, he's definitely uninterested in procreating.
