The song came and went
Like the times that we spent
Hiding out from the rain under the carnival tent
I laughed and she'd smile
It would last for awhile
You don't know what you got till you lose it all again

Listen to the mandolin rain
Listen to the music on the lake
Listen to my heart break every time she runs away
Listen to the banjo wind
A sad song drifting low
Listen to the tears roll
Down my face as she turns to go

A cool evening dance
Listening to the bluegrass band takes the chill
From the air till they play the last song
I'll do my time
Keeping you off my mind but there's moments
That I find, I'm not feeling too strong

Listen to the mandolin rain
Listen to the music on the lake
Listen to my heart break every time she runs away
Listen to the banjo wind
A sad song drifting low
Listen to the tears roll
Down my face as she turns to go

Running down by the lakeshore
She did love the sound of a summer storm
It played on the lake like a mandolin
Now it's washing her away again

Listen to the mandolin rain
Listen to the music on the lake
Listen to my heart break every time she runs away
Listen to the banjo wind
A sad song drifting low
Listen to the tears roll
Down my face as she turns to go

The boat's steaming in
I watch the sidewheel spin and I
Think about her when I hear that whistle blow
I can't change my mind
I knew all the time that she'd go
But that's a choice I made long ago

Listen to the mandolin rain
Listen to the music on the lake
Listen to my heart break every time she runs away
Listen to the banjo wind
A sad song drifting low
Listen to the tears roll
Down my face as she turns to go

3. He's a fantastic live performer.
If you ever have a chance to see him live, do so. Highly recommended. I think the last time I saw him perform live was back in '96 when he was touring with the remaining members of the Dead, Hot Tuna, and a load of other folks. Fun stuff.

6. Hey, that was a decade ago almost . . . and I was still in mourning

for Jerry at the time, so you can take some comfort in knowing I didn't enjoy it as much as I could have

Tell you what though, not only does Hornsby rock live, but Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Cassady STILL play some kick ass blues (Hot Tuna was better many moons ago, but they still sounded good in '96, but if you listen to some of their acoustic blues stuff from late '60s or early '70s, DAMN that's some tasty stuff) :)

Another band that played that tour that I forgot about that also rocks live . . . Los Lobos . . . damn those dudes are good :)

7. you really know how to hurt a gal
which reminds me....I need to start a post about the very word GAL...when to properly use it and when it is MOST inappropriate....like for instance just now, I used it in the correct manner on and about myself BUT when a guy uses it...well let me just go start my post
