1. And my answers....
1. What did you do in 2005 that you'd never done before?
Rode (as a passenger) a motorcycle. Got a not-so-good review at work. Got a good review and a raise 6 months later. Took the LSAT. Applied to law school. Got divorced. A few things not for public consumption.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't make them.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
My cousin Deena.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
No close friends or family members. A staggering number of online acquaintences and ex in-laws, though.

5. What countries did you visit?
Just this one -- Texas, Florida, Nevada.

6. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Double ear infection, sinus infection, assorted blah this summer. Nothing serious.

7. What was the best thing you bought?
Hm....I didn't buy much stuff this year. Probably some bit of cooking equipment I use every day but have forgotten I only got it this year.

8. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? MUCH happier
b) thinner or fatter? Fatter, but that's a good thing, as I was just coming off the divorce diet this time last year.
c) richer or poorer? Richer, but saving like mad because I'm gonna be WAY poorer at this time next year.

9. Did you begin, continue, or end a relationship?
Continued, but it's evolved a lot in the last year and I think the phrase "rebound relationship" has lost its appropriateness a long time ago.

10. How many one-night stands did you have?
None.

11. What was your favorite TV program?
"Arrested Development"

12. What was your favorite film of this year?
Saw a few good ones, actually -- "Serenity" and "Kung Fu Hustle" (yes, a kung fu movie) immediately leap to mind.

13. What kept you sane?
Cooking and baking. Starting a Drinking Liberally chapter. Taking the LSAT and knowing I was doing something about my apathy at work.

14. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Alton Brown. Still.

15. Who was the best new person you met?
I met Alton! I also met the former Mary Feingold. I also met a bunch of new friends via Drinking Liberally.

16. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2005:
If 2006-2015 are anything like 2005, my 30s will rule.

9. ok:
1. I went to San Francisco for the first time last year. (Which I'm sure at least a few of you already knew). I started this year on a porch there overlooking the city, a bottle of champagne in hand, and friends everywhere I turned.

2. I don't think I made any.

3. Nope. No babies this year.

4. Not anybody close to me but some friends of a friend died way too early.

5. Just the USA USA USA!

6. No, thankfully. Maybe a cold and some alcohol induced "illness," but nothing serious.

7. Hmmm. Not sure. Maybe the digital camera, or the Bill Hicks book. I'll go with the book.

8. A little happier I guess.
About the same. Maybe slightly thinner, but a good dinner would change that.
A little richer. Part time job richer, though. Nothing outrageous.

9. All three, not in that order, and with the same person.

10. zero

11. So much TV, so little time. It has to be a 7 way tie (sorry, but that's just how it is): The Colbert Report, The Daily Show, Real Time w/Bill Maher, Arrested Development, Tom Goes to the Mayor, Extras, and My Name is Earl.

12. The Forty Year Old Virgin and The Aristocrats

13. my friends.

14. Gee, I don't really know. I'll go with Jon Stewart.

15. I met so many great new people this year that I can't pick just one.

16. Don't be afraid to do what makes you happy in life.

:hi:

1 What did you do in 2005 that you'd never done before?

I'm not sure that I am :). I think seeing *'s falling ratings and similar trends for my country's Prime Minister and his party has been good for me -although I still wish both of them had not been re-elected because they both have set their nations back even further during the year and the consequences of keeping them on have been truly devastating

14. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
I can't actually tell you my main ones for various reasons

15. Who was the best new person you met?
Several people in my political party's youth wing, several political figures in my political party and on this forum it would have to be California Peggy

13. Hmmm......
1. What did you do in 2005 that you'd never done before?

I was Elvis. I still am. :-)

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

Don't think I made any, except maybe some general guideline I've forgotten. Don't get into New Year's at all, for a couple of reasons. Chinese New Year's more exciting to me.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

Nope.

4. Did anyone close to you die?

Yes. And someone not as close to me but still a long-time acquainatance and cousin through marriage.

5. What countries did you visit?

For the first time in 12 years, I stuck to the USA in 2005.

6. Did you suffer illness or injury?

Nothing serious. Got a stupid, lingering, low-level cold right now.

7. What was the best thing you bought?

Quite a few cool little things. Had fun on eBay.

8. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder?

Vastly happier. Not that I was too sad a year ago.

b) thinner or fatter?

Thinner.

c) richer or poorer?

Pretty similar, which is very close to the edge, but with the promise of Big Money tangible within the next week and thereafter. :-)

9. Did you begin, continue, or end a relationship?

All of the above, I guess. Depends how you define each relationship.

10. How many one-night stands did you have?

Zero.

11. What was your favorite TV program?

Didn't really watch any. Saw a few episodes of "The West Wing" and some other stuff with a close friend/relative who's a TV addict.

12. What was your favorite film of this year?

It's been so long since I went to the movies that I can't even recall the pictures, though I did go, a few times, early in the year with above-referenced person. I liked "Ray" a lot and can't recall, right now, what other 2005 movies I liked. Still catchingn up on movies from the '90s that I missed out on because of grad school.

13. What kept you sane?

Never said I was sane.

Myself, I guess. Weak in some ways -- especially when near Kryptonite, but I'm otherwise pretty durable. Had some major, major stress this past year, physical (surprised I didn't die) and otherwise.

14. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

My Salma, I guess. :-)

15. Who was the best new person you met?

That would be telling. But I'm so happy I did. :D

18. Jed Dilligan's

1. What did you do in 2005 that you'd never done before?

Earned a doctorate. Took a virginity. Spent a Euro (actually a few hundred.) Bought weed legally. Spent Thanksgiving overseas.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

I don't bother with them--the obvious one (quitting cigarettes) will come in its own time.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

Not close enough that it immediately jumps to mind.

4. Did anyone close to you die?

Yes, a neighbor who was a friend committed suicide. There were others, but that's the stand-out case.

5. What countries did you visit?

Scotland and the Netherlands

6. Did you suffer illness or injury?

Not this year, knock on wood

7. What was the best thing you bought?

A Soviet army hat--the fur kind with earflaps.

8. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? same
b) thinner or fatter? same
c) richer or poorer? richer

9. Did you begin, continue, or end a relationship?

continue.

10. How many one-night stands did you have?

zilch, sadly.

11. What was your favorite TV program?

Hard to say. I watch a few but I'm not crazy about any of them. Enjoyed the L Word up to a point, lots of good actresses but often crap writing. Desperate Housewives--ditto. Lately I enjoy Arrested Development and The War At Home. There wasn't any new Curb Your Enthusiasm this year, was there?

12. What was your favorite film of this year?

They've only just gotten good--I enjoyed Pride and Prejudice (Knightley deserves best actress!) and Syriana a lot. Good Night and Good Luck, also excellent.

13. What kept you sane?

Working on my doctorate, a novel and other big projects.

14. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

"Fancy" in the British sense? I'd say Eva Longoria.

15. Who was the best new person you met?

There have been a lot, hard to say.

16. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2005:

Life is short--make your mark. I got that from the wall of a Mexican restaurant, but it's damned true.

1. What did you do in 2005 that you'd never done before? Worked 7 12's (night shift at that) for 10 weeks straight. Made more money in that short period of time than at any other time in my life. I'd love to do it again.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year? No way, Jose!

3. Did anyone close to you give birth? No.

4. Did anyone close to you die? My SO's brother. Two uncles on my side of the family but I haven't been close to my family in years.

5. What countries did you visit? None.

6. Did you suffer illness or injury? No.

7. What was the best thing you bought? No answer, the year's not over yet.

13. What kept you sane? Flyfishing.

14. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? Kim Cattrall. I'd like to be stranded on a deserted island with her.

16. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2005: Time is growing short.

39. Kind of a wierd year - lookin' forward to '06
1. On New Years day I came home from another country I'd never been to - Costa Rica. I had a not- so- great time so it was actually wonderful to be back.
2. I didn't make any resolutions.
3. Yes. A gay male couple that I've been friends with for years finally had a precious little girl through a surrogate (they don't want to know which one of them is the father).
4.Well, the year's not over yet so I'll hold my breath but for now, no one close has died.
5.Costa Rica
6.Just the typical stuff with illnesses
7. A book: Cracking the Millionaires Code
8. A little sadder, about the same weight, about the same financially.
9. I was in an on- and- off relationship for a good part of the year. We finally realized there was no way it would work.
10. No one-nights stands here
11. Six Feet Under was the best show in the history of my personal T.V. viewing. IMHO, the last season was unbelieveable
12. I actually saw "Goodfellows" for the first time and was blown away. As far as on the screen, I'd have to say "Crash." (I'm sensing a dark theme as I'm typing out my answers)!
13. Meditation, a great friend moved back to Southern Cal from Arizona, and I got really close to another friend who was once just an aquaintance
14. George Clooney - Talented, georgeous, and such a compassionate guy. I'm glad he's trying his hardest to help the country in his own way.
15. A co-worker who just radiates fun, positive energy, and cracks us all up.
16. Valuable lesson: If one chooses to grow and attempt to self-actualize, it will change your life. Initially, it can/will be very painful because you won't want and need what you used to want and need. This applies to certain friends, jobs, almost everything. It can be a kind of spiritual crisis. However, in the long run, the benefits will be immeasurable (at least that's what I'm told). Right now, I have to rely on faith because I haven't quite gotten to the benefits part yet.
