and snacks for our Christmas Eve get-together

2. Very crappy, and I feel bad about it, which makes me feel crappier.
I still have shopping to do, I have other errands to run, I have church at 6... and I am in the worst mood I've been in for some time.

I just want to go to bed and be there for a week.

And I feel bad. I have a 6 year old who's excited, and it's taking a herculean effort to appear to be in the mood to sing the 12 days of Christmas for the 283797384729783598654793742385th time today.

I'm singing it right now, in fact.

6. Can't wait till it's all over
The whole family is telling me it's time to get married. WTF... I am really pissed. It's the same story as last year and the year before that. I am 32 and single and everyone in my family thinks I should have been married already with a couple of kids... Instead I don't even have a serious girlfriend.

Why can't people keep their mouths shut? I am really pissed.

13. Tell them it bothers you.
Seriously. They might think they're just teasing, or giving you a gentle nudge. But if you're honest with them, they should love you enough to respect you as you are - not who you're with.

12. Shitty and getting shitter by the minute
Just when I'm thinking I might finally shake this cold or virus or whatever the hell it is that's making me cough so much my entire body hurts, I wake up with a splitting headache. And then start coughing again. Which only makes the fucking headache worse.

I haven't been a huge Christmas fan for years for a number of reasons, some of which don't even matter anymore, and none of which I would bore anyone with today, but this being sick on the holiday shit really sucks. And this is the second fucking consecutive year it's happenned to me too.

27. Real Mixed Bag here:
Husband isn't getting home for Christmas, but he may make it by New Years and he will be home to stay this time.

Daughter is moving to her first apartment Jan 7

I am achy from walking around on concrete floors shopping and whatnot

I DON"T have to go back to work until Tuesday

Christmas Eve Candlelight Communion service tonight will be wonderful, and my daughter and one of her uncles will be going with me.

Family dinner after church will be lots of fun.

My cake is baked and my rolls are doing their first rise.

I have a TON of laundry to do.

No more presents to buy, though.

One of the gifts I bought my daughter is defective and has to be exchanged.

I have lost 12 pounds!!!!

My cats are snuggly and wonderful and seem to think I should snuggle up with them.

I have a video of the Laurel & Hardy "March of the Wooden Soldiers" that I am going to watch while I straighten up from all my mess.

Finally found a pretty table top Christmas tree and put it up last night.

Things could be so much worse!!!!!! My complaints are minor and life is going pretty well.

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and if you celebrate a different holiday, well my greetings for that too.

We got a great rate on a hotel right at the beach :-). We're going to just relax-no family dynamics/or issues with anyone who's going to be there. That's my favorite way to spend time- just relaxing and doing whatever we want....and I'm off of work until Wednesday. Cheers to the wonderful family here at DU!

I'm sort of melancholy today. Don't know why. I have been fighting a little stomach bug and cough plus my knee has been hurting me lately. I stopped taking the painkillers because they were doing no good. I must have clinched my teeth last night while I was sleeping because my jaw is killing me. Oh well, my kids are getting excited so I better perk up.

77. Solitary road trips can be a great thing.
Great way to clear the mind and relax. Assuming your vehicle is in great condition, of course. I'd suggest getting a portable XM radio hookup if you don't have one already (or your car already equipped).

That way you always have AAR available, along with whatever kind of music imaginable, without having to change radio stations (or CD's ) every hour.

I've been doing laundry since 7am. He got into bed and intentionally peed on me and the sheets, took half the keys off my laptop, intentionally pooped on himself and made a mess, and choked me and his brother once. We've started ABA therapy, trying to figure out what is going on with him.

He was only 6 years old and was the best dog ever. Kidney failure. Poison? infection? We don't know.

The kicker? I've had two dogs, and I had to bury both of them on Dec 24th.

:(

Well, I'm havin' a merry fuckin' christmas.

Buried a bird, a dog, a mother-in-law and put my sister in hospice this year. Next year ought to be better.

41. A combination of stressed out
and can't wait until it's over.

I don't do Christmas; the orgy of capitalism it's become is utterly abhorrent to me. But try explaining that to a 12-year-old niece, whom I'll see tomorrow at the obligatory family thing.

I don't understand the premise, anyway. Some people decided this dude named Jesus was the son of their god and also decided his birthday was Dec. 25, so we give each other stuff to commemorate this.

I could understand something like throwing feasts and inviting friends and neighbors. But when part of the "celebration" is millions of thousand-yard stares and thoughts of "Must... get... iPod... must... get... XBox..." I think we've lost our way.

I read recently that the average American spends $700 on Christmas gifts. Think of what that would mean to those who have nothing.

Sorry to be a drag. Merry Christmas.

I used to spend $700 every year and come home with (excuse me) a trunkful of crap I never would have bought for myself. Then the Bush economy hit and I could not participate in the gift exchange and suddenly I realized I wasn't missing anything- so I stopped. Now I don't get so far behind on the power bill. Merry Christmas OR.

46. Sort of a mixed bag here.
For one, it is raining and my satellite is out. That really pisses me off.

And I am waiting for my Freeper sister and her husband to get here because she was bringing me a gift. She said they would be here between 5 and 6. It is now 6 p.m. She called me a nasty Democratic atheist, so I sent her a gift which read, "From your nasty Democratic atheist sister." It is going to be interesting to see what type of gift she will be giving me. Probably will read: "From your Republican fundie sister and brother-in-law."

Anyway, my son and his family will be visiting me tomorrow and they share my political views. They also hate Bush as much as I do.

59. I'm having a good time.
Every Christmas Eve I cook for the whole family. Mom, Dad, my brother and his family and my own wife and kids. Prime beef for all out on the grill. Garlic mashed potatoes, broccoli, corn on the cob and cherry tomato salad. Then we open gifts and drink heavily. A splendid time.

62. Peaceful
I thought that that would be my first Christmas without any family of any kind around, but then I got an invitation from a family that has more or less adopted me.

Even so, I'll be spending several hours on line, including on DU.

66. I'm in the middle of a mildly-tense malaise. Sucks.
But at least Mars moves off my fucking Ascendant tonight. That should really help get things going in my life starting tommorow.

68. I have HAPPY FEET!
You know, I wandered around life pissed off for the last month. I woke up today and said "fuck it."

Had to work a short shift this morning, and I spent the entire 3 hours being a total fool. Made people laugh, made them think I was insane, probably made some wonder whether they wanted to come into our place of business again. Whatever. I was having fun.

And I'm having fun tonight, me and my cat, my connection to the world, some tunes playing, and a nice glass of warm, very fine cognac beside me. Got some cheese and some crackers. Got a movie playing in the background I watch everything now and then. I'm warm and safe and fed. I may die tomorrow, but right now, at this moment, I have nothing to be unhappy about.

WooHoo!

70. Driven by hunger to leave my den to forage, for the first time in days
Other than that, sick (but almost over it!) and happy (and not getting over it!). The latter is the only mood that matters, in the long run, and that makes me even happier.

And -- no -- I'm not delirious, so stop saying that. :P

74. My dad passed on this year, so it's some sadness mixed
with peacefulness and reverence.

Our extended family had the big get-together last week. Tomorrow will be a quiet time and I will go over to my mom's house and keep her company.

75. I'm happy.
Today has been a good day. The meal was great and has been cleaned up and put away. We opened our presents and everyone was pleased with their gifts (including the dogs.) Once I cook tomorrow's turkey, I am on vacation from the kitchen for several days while we eat up the leftovers. Can't ask for much more.

78. My Dad was in the hospital
...for a few days -- a terrible UTI and gall bladder problems.

And a pet died (one of my ferrets).

I feel a little overwhelmed.
