Woohoo! Christmas eve fight about politics with my father!!
Edited on Sat Dec-24-05 10:17 PM by Finnfan
I didn't mean for it to happen. I walked into the middle of a conversation my Aunt & Uncle were having with my father about the Iraq war (My Dad = Pro-war, Everyone else = Anti-war). I quickly lost my temper, as did my dad, who then, backed into a corner by me, began justifying torture and wiretapping. It ended badly, followed by an hour of my family begging me to apologize to/forgive my dad because "it's Christmas".

Eventually, after taking my son back to his mom's, my father did a semi-apology in which he admitted that he doesn't actually believe in torture, followed by a 10 minute calm lecture about why he was right about everything else. I apologized for arguing but said little else.

So Christmas is saved, but whatever respect I had left for my father is gone.

Happy Holidays everyone!!! :woohoo:

1. Man, that has to suck!
At least when I talk to my dad (the 30-year Air Force vet) tomorrow, he'll wonder by Bush isn't already being impeached. Not much love for His Chimperial Majesty at our little gathering tomorrow.

I feel for folks that are at odds with their family over such things.

Happy Holidays to everyone there. :hi:

2. Thanks, David
It's not looking good for me in Fantasy Football, either (although it's not over yet).

Worse, Sarah's sick with the flu and I'm 200 miles away. :-( She still found time to listen to me rant about my family, though. :loveya:

Merry Christmas to you, my friend! :hi:

3. Ack! Not good all around.
The good news is that soon, that 200 miles will melt away, and all will be strawberries and cream again. :)

Merry Christmas to you, her and your little humans. :hi:

5. I know how you feel.
My dad wouldn't even acknowledge any point I made, let alone give any kind of apology. Dad's a core repug, no matter what.

Happy Holidays to you and yours!
