All systems were apparently "go," as just hours ago Santa Claus began what turned out to be his final annual journey around the world to spread holiday cheer.
Santa and his team of reindeer, led by Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, were destroyed at 3 a.m. Central Standard Time, said Master Sgt. John Tomassi of the North American Aerospace Defense Command’s Santa Tracker program.
The program, ending now after its 50th year, was headquartered at Peterson AFB in Colorado Springs, Colo. NORAD command and control was exercised through the nearby Cheyenne Mountain Operations Center where Santa Trackers were under orders from President Bush to terminate Santa.
Bush said "In a post 9/11 world there's just no place for a threat to national security like Santa Claus" he added "Santa must die so that freedom might live"
Tomassi said NORAD Santa Trackers were alerted of Santa’s departure through the North Warning System, a powerful radar system with 47 installations strung across northern Canada and Alaska.
Once the order was confirmed, Santa’s movements were tracked with four high-tech systems, including radar, satellites, Santa Cams and jet fighter aircraft, before being destroyed by six Santa SAM missiles Tomassi said.
