O vegan members of DU!
How do you keep your nails strong?

Mine have been breaking off LOW lately.

1. Eating some actual protein helps.
And no, soy doesn't count. It just makes you estrogen-overloaded.

2. What did you have in mind?
I used to have LONG nails, but something in my diet has clearly shifted.

3. Well, since you don't do dairy, nuts are very important.
Huge source of calcium and protein. You need at least a handful a day. Sesame seeds are some of the best for those reasons.

5. A little. But the nails might still remain weak.

6. I'd like to be of assistance but I can't
My nails were prone to breakage even before I went vegetarian. Apparently protein overload isn't everything it's cracked up to be.

7. Take a biotin supplement. Also vitamin B-12 helps.
