Entertainment Only!... What was the BEST and WORST stuff of 2005???
What was the best and worst in movies, music, books, television, video/DVD, magazines, internet, etc, etc, etc,

To me, this was a bland year for entertainment, so I will just mention some really OBSCURE stuff.

The BEST stuff of 2005...

- South Park- Best season ever? Nope, but still better than a lot of other crap on TV.

- Texas UIL High School One-Act Play Competition- 2005 5A State Champion-
scenes from "An Experiment With and Air Pump"- Arlington High School.

... Yes, 99.999 percent of you guys out there don't know what the hell I am talking about. I just want to recognize these outstanding high school students and their drama teachers. This is quite possibly the best play I have ever seen in my life.

- I can't think of anything else at the moment...

The WORST stuff of 2005...

- 75% of the "Rock" bands on mainstream pop/rock radio. Too many to list... I don't even know some of these bands names... and I don't want to know.

- Jennifer Aniston. Okay, not WORST, but the supreme example of OVERRATED!!!!!!!!!! Okay, okay... I didn't put her on this tough to make (but short) list because of her talent. She is in the news too much for doing nothing related to acting.

- 75% to 90% of movies that came out this past year. 'King Kong' is not a great movie. I'm sorry folks, but it just isn't.

- Korn. I'm not even sure if these guys put out a new album this past year, but is there any chance of them disbanding?

2. movies...
This year, I was blessed with Batman Begins...I am a huge comic book fan and the movie was god damn phenomenal...I enjoyed it greatly...:) That is my number one movie, granted i haven't seen King Kong yet, and won't until it comes out on dvd, but Batman Begins...I was there with my meager savings the same weekend it came out, and was the only movie i watched in the theater this year...:)

As far as music goes...since the boy bands and nysync garbage of the late 90s, i haven't listend to much radio at all...and i have no idea what "new" bands came out this year..but my fav cds of this year are

Disturbe-Ten Thousand Fists
Napoleon Dynamite soundtrack...:)
ILL Nino One Nation Underground...

:)

3. Syriana - best "delayed effect" movie of 2005
As in you'll be thinking about what you've seen on-screen and going over the details in your head over and over. A complicated film compared to a lot of other films, yes, but the payoff is worth the extra effort.

4. Entertainment only? Okay, mine:
BEST

-This year, I discovered the band Rise Against. I've seen them live twice now, and I don't see them going away any time soon.

-Family Guy back on a weekly basis.

-The Colbert Report. I find the show hilarious, and a great follow up to The Daily Show.

-The DU Lounge. Always entertaining.

WORST

-"Reality" shows. How many of these do we really need? I just don't like 'em.

-If one more "performer" does a remix with ANY Linkin Park song, I'm gonna lose it.

-Two words: Paris Hilton.

-Stars and their relationships. I wish Cruise, Pitt, Joli, Aniston, Spears, et al would all have one giant orgy, tape it, leak it onto the net so that we can hurry up and frikkin forget about them and their romantic interests.

-MTV. Should change it's name to S(hit)TV

6. OKAY, remeber, I have funky tastes...
Best:

Various reincarnations of the iPod.

The Caesars (For me, at least)

Everybody Hates Chris (My fathers and my favorite show)

Law and Order: SVU (Only one I can stand anymore, really)

Worst:

Harry Potter (WAAAAAAAAY overrated. The movie and the book)

Celebrities running around like they own us all, and that they are the most important things in the world, and that we should all cry because they broke up with their SO.

The fact that Survivor and The Apprentice don't just keel over and die, not twitch every once in a while.

8. WORST - reality/flashback channels posing as music channels
between the bad documentaries and the inspid whining very little bands got exposure and as a result, american idol crap continues to dominate the airwaves.
THIS DECADE HAS NO CULTURE _at least in the mainstrean, anyway- the 80s at least had madonna and prince, and the 70s had bowie

10. best: Life in Slow Motion, David Gray..a sample
"The One I Love"

Gonna close my eyes
Girl and watch you go
Running through this life darling
Like a field of snow
As the tracer glides
In its graceful arc
Send a little prayer out to ya
'cross the falling dark

Tell the repo man
And the stars above
You're the one I love

Perfect summers night
Not a wind that breathes
Just the bullets whispering gentle
'mongst the new green leaves
There's things I might have said
Only wish I could
Now I'm leaking life faster
Then I'm leaking blood

Tell the repo man
And the stars above
You're the one I love
You're the one I love
The one I love

Don't see Elysium
Don't see no fiery hell
Just the lights up bright baby
In the bay hotel
Next wave coming in
Like an ocean roar
Won't you take my hand darling
On that old dance floor

We can twist and shout
Do the turtle dove
And you're the one I love
You're the one I love
The one I love

11. Best: System of a Down's Mesmerize/Hypnotize CDs. Worst: Jen Anniston
But if we're handing out awards, Anniston's publicist deserves something for ousting Jon-Bennet Ramsay with such bland mediocrity.

17. Only a few things I liked this year...
With an almost 3 year old, I didn't get out to see many movies... but nothing really thrilled me movie-wise.

Same with music - Not one song on commercial radio really made me stop and say, "hey, that's pretty cool"

Radio - Morning Sedition on Air America was generally very good.

TV - Battlestar Galactica rocked!

That's about it.
