What is the nicest gift you ever gave anyone?
I am giving my mom $200 since she has been out of work and she is not the kind to accept any money from her daughter unless it is a holiday or birthday.

1. My dad cried when I gave him
"Wind Beneath My Wings" (by the good male vocalist), and let him know it was for him.

2. I just asked... The answers are surprising..
Apple juice and a flower. One night the GF was very sick and I kept her in a steady supply of apple juice. And lots of cuddles.. This ranks as #1.

The second best thing I ever did was giving her a flower... She still has it. But, she lost the diamonds from our anniversary.

3. Sometimes a flower is more important then a stone. A living thing
that represents your living love.

8. Pajamas and socks for my dad.
For years I was never able to get him anything he might use or enjoy. We were too different.

Christmass of '88, as he was home sick fighting his 7th year of cancer, I decided some nice pajamas and some socks for him to wander around the house in. He actually wore the pajamas several times when I went to visit.

He died Feb of '89. My mom included the socks I gave him in the clothes he was buried in.

Best damned presents I ever gave!

10. I thought I did ok this year
My brother had a record he was very fond of, but it had got scratched and now it jumps. He was quite cut up about that, because he could not find a replacement copy anywhere. I managed to track one down. I didn't spend much money (although it was a lot for a piece of vinyl) but I got something I know he appreciates.

11. I helped clean the house of friends
It was one of those situations where there wasn't really anything I could do to actually help solve the problem that was happening in their lives. I couldn't think of anything else to do, so we rolled up sleeves and cleaned house.

I've flown friends across the country for birthday surprises - specifically, flew my husband's best friend up for a surprise on his birthday - and brought a friend from Florida to Washington for Thanksgiving dinner when she didn't want to be alone. I once found for a friend an antique piece of jewelry that she believes was once hers in a past life. I've done splashy and showy and big, but the clean house thing comes out on top.

14. I gave my dad a letter on Father's Day one year
In it I thanked him for several specific things he's done which have meant so much to me - mostly believing in me and giving me opportunities. My dad and I have had our share of difficulties over the years - there was a long period of no contact whatsoever so it was extra meaningful that I acknowledged all the good things (and it's funny - as I wrote it, I remembered more and more of them).

He cried when he read it - I'd NEVER seen my father cry.
