People who kill the earth for convenience piss me off
I'm thinking people who put foil down on their baking sheets to "make cleanup easier". Or who serve meals on plastic disposable plates and use disposable plastic silverware so they "dont' have to wash dishes". Or the people who overuse saran wrap instead of just putting their food in reusable containers. Or the ones who wrap their potatoes in foil to bake them. Or use aerosal cooking sprays like PAM. Or those who don't reuse their ziplock bags, who don't take bags back to the grocery store for reuse (those plastic veggie bags can be used scores, if not more, of times, and a lot of veggies don't even need to put in the goddamn things to begin with), who throw away the plastic bags they get from stores instead of finding some way to reuse them or recycle them.

America, as a country, has decided that convenience is far more important than giving our children a living, breathing planet, and I, for one, am goddamn sick and tired of it.

But it's esepcailly offensive when people waste shit just so that their cleanup is easier. Oh, boo fucking hoo, you lazy bastards; there are 5 billion around the world who would give their right arm to even have the food you are cooking, and would be happy as shit to go through the "pain" of spending an extra five seconds of elbow grease cleaning the goddamn pan. But, sadly, we would rather shower them with acid rain and send them our food-wasting trash so that we don't have to be bothered with things that are "distasteful", like, you know, work.

1. Acid Rain? Man, the last time I heard that term I was stoned.
:-)

3. I'm in an ongoing battle over those plastic grocery bags
I take a cardboard box with me when shopping to put everything in, but I still have to
threaten the register help to keep them from wrapping every item lovingly in its very
own bag before putting it in there. If I get distracted for five seconds to, for
instance, pay for the food, they use the opportunity to get way ahead of me with the
useless bagging.

The only explanation I can come up with is that they must be getting some kind of
kickback from their supplier for every one they use. Sure we recycle them,
but recycling costs energy too, compared to not having the damned things to
start with, which is what I want!

6. Actually from what I understand most clerks
are scored on their "items per minute." Using a box or clothe bag slows them down.

I hate the people that drop their plastic bags in the recycle bin outside the store and then go in and walk out with a bunch more. Reuse before recycling!

9. I know what you mean...
I take canvas shopping bags to the grocery store and tell them to put everything in them and then they pack them so light and then want to use the plastic ones. So, now I always tell them to pack them full and to not worry about the weight, the canvas ones won't break.

4. I understand but
This planet could kick our asses in a heartbeat. It's good to try to do your best for the environment, but it isn't the Earth we are hurting, it's us. Not to be a dick but, go down to New Orleans and talk about foil and how it is weakening the planet.

I try to be conscious of what I do concerning the environment, but we are just little specks of shit on Earth and it could wipe you out in a second with it's power.

The Earth has been around a lot longer than we have and it will probably be around well after humanity kills itself off.

13. You're right - I should say "kill the part of the earth we need to exist"
not the earth itself. The earth is a 10^28 kg mass of rock; it's not getting killed or destroyed by us. But we can do a pretty good job of destroying the viability of the surface for sustaining life as we know it; and, in fact, right now we ARE doing a good job.

7. PREACH IT BROTHER
Nothing pisses me off quite like PLASTIC. Using and tossing plastic flatware drives me INSANE. C'mon, it's dishwasher-safe, fer cryin' out loud.

Thank you for inspiring me to try harder, BTW. My husband could give a flying firetruck about this stuff and it drives me nuts.

10. What about people who wear sweatshop suits while posting on
messageboards, the pollution from which factories is dumped into the rivers of third world countries?

11. I didn't know you wore suits
I pictured you as a blue jeans guy. :hide:

(Although I am no match for your wit, I did this for the team especially the popcorn eaters.)

12. And that's another problem. Also the chemicals that are used to grow
our food (unless one goes organic, but not everything is available organically) which is washed away into the oceans and kills fish and etc.

And all the pollution that is de facto required for our "modern" "civilization" through fuel usage, heating, road construction and disposal, tire production and disposal, cargo ship pollution, and it's either destroy a lot of good land for wooden houses, or destroy less land but have to rape the earth for it's ores to build tall apartment buidings.

Sadly, there is not always an easy solution - but some things we DO have control over, and one of those is our convenience items: disposable pens, disposable razors, plastic knives and forks and plates, etc. etc. etc.

14. We're all guilty
Just some more than others. I use foil, yep. It's either that or use more hot water, scrubbing pads, plastic soap bottles, etc cleaning the pan.
