Although ABC's The View is not a political show, Democrats did have a small victory today. Rachel Campos, a finalist for the fifth co-host position previously held by Lisa Ling, lost out to Elisabeth Hasselbeck (from Survivor fame). During the selection process, Rachel proudly described herself as a "conservative," explaining that she was a "Bush supporter" and would "balance out" the show. Actually, she has very little knowledge of politics and merely repeats what she can glean as the "Republican" view. For example, to display her "conservative" values during one show, she eagerly defended Ahnuld's behavior, saying the allegations concerning his behavior towards women were meaningless and raised only to score political points. Her prior opinions concerning Clinton's "private" life were quite different, however, and centered on the immorality of his actions. Had she been selected, she would have likely spouted the Republican talking points on every issue.
Actually, none of the hosts speak on behalf of either the Democratic or Republican party. The View is an entertainment show. Most of the comments concerning Clinton focus on a certain part of his anatomy, and there is no discussion of Bush's policies. The "political" comments from the hosts, with the exception of Star Jones, are laughingly ignorant. At least the producers were smart enough to keep "Ms. Republican" off the show.
