My version of a "Happy New Year" to you all

I dabble in writing bad poetry from time to time, so here you all go. :)



My thoughts while listening to New Year’s Fireworks


First of all, I like a good New Year’s drunk
as much as the next guy.
kisses
in
clubs
from beautiful women never hurt my feelings
either.

But getting blitzed on the New Year is strictly
amateur hour.

Any fool can become piss-drunk and miserable
waking up with a whore with no name
wondering what he did
the
night
before

Regaling later about a pieced together hallucination

The professionals are out for the other 364 days
of the year
puking (check)
fighting (can handle my own)
fucking (not my specialty so to speak, but I dabble)
making a hilarious ass out of themselves (Ding! Ding! Ding!)

Waking up years later to a pieced together hallucination

There is nothing romantic about lost years
and
brain cells

Nothing romantic about becoming numb to love
numb to dreams
numb to life

Nothing charming about being another
drunken Indian
who threw
it all
away

For drink after drink after drink

Maybe I am making too much of this
because I was never
all that
bad
and I no longer have to deal with
it

But I always feel like I am one beer
away from losing what
little I have

So that’s why I’m drinking one now

Because the New Year has come and
I can be another painless
amateur

The one commonality between being drunk
and sober
is that I never have stopped
making people laugh

I can toast to that.

Well, I have no clue what her number is or where she lives now. I guess I kinda have a clue. It's in AZ. I have done a phonebook search on her name... hasn't ever yielded much. But, I have also been an absolute chicken too though. So I more or less look in a half-ass manner. :)

barely edited, wrote it in less than a half hour, so all things considered it's ok. I have some stuff it took me a year to do and I still want to tinker with them, haha.

Kind of gritty. Very direct and honest. What I think of as a poem "in black and white." I like it. Actually, I think I like it best of your poems that I've seen so far.
