Hey, Pat Robertson: red states are burning because they voted for Shrub!
It's GOD'S PUNISHMENT ON THEM FOR VOTING FOR A MAN OF SATAN! And for giving up their god-given brains in order to peddle Intelligent Design on innocent children.

1. I had wanted to point this out
Why is Massachussetts so safe? Why no storms or fires there? Shouldn't God be punishing them?

/twisted fundie logic

2. Because Clinton used his penis to....
...divert tax money away from defence and into a top-secret weather machine that protects New York and New England only.

3. Of course, a most logical answer!
It was silly of to think that is city A is punished by God for its sins, that city B, which is not suffering, must be therefore blessed by God. It's so simple, I see the truth - it means city B, if it's a city I don't like, is in league with Satan, and is thus protected. And if City A is a city I like, and it is suffering, it is because Satan is waging war on its righteousness.

4. Exactly! And that's why you shouldn't help Katrina victims!
Because giving a man a fish will feed him for a day, but teaching a man to fish will feed him for a lifetime.

And nobody wants fish in New Orleans, anyway.

6. Plus with all that jazz, the fish might be hearing impaired,
which means they are being punished for the sins of their parents.

8. No no no...They're being punished for
not adhering to the laws that were established in Leviticus. They've got the homosexual abomination thing down alright; but they eat all kinds of shellfish and pork, work on the Sabbath, cut their hair, wear polyester, and nobody, NOBODY is even stoned for their insolence.

11. I am now, officially, completely tired of this.

Several people from Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, and elsewhere have, with increasing degrees of vehemence, been trying to suggest those who seem bent on making a joke out of every damn thing cut this shit out because there are real, live people here who are being personally affected by this continuting tragedy in a very personal way. Consider this another of those suggestions, turned up a notch.

Had this sort of nonsense floated around the victims of New Orleans, the hue and cry would have been, quite correctly, ferocious. But, we're just Okies or those bad Texans or people from that idiotic state of Kansas, and I guess we just don't count. While we're enduring the snide remarks, those in California are having multiple threads started inquiring into the well-being of those affected by the rains. I have no problem with the latter, of course, but the contrast is astonishing on a suppoedly liberal message board. The other night, when I got back from helping a woman I know evacuate her home and leave some of her animals to burn, I turned on DU only to find some moronic suggestion that people here are just to flipping dumb to know how to get out of the way of a fire. We're religious nutbags after all; we just wait for God to save us...don't know any better.

So, anyway, y'all all have fun with your joke, as unoriginal as it is. We'll just lose everything, throw our animals into the fires, and maybe just die ourselves to increase your levels of entertainment.

I understand it's sarcasm directed at Pat Robertson, but I think for those that are suffering directly, it's too raw of a wound right now.
