Old Folks Say The Damndest Things
The other day when I was talking to my mother, age 71, as she was looking up something online, she said, "How did we ever manage without the internet?"

1. Well?
How did we? I'm not as old as your mother, but I was there, too.

The elderly are supposed to be afraid of technology - right?

5. Me make fire.
Yeah, that's true. My dad can barely manage his cell phone and e-mail. It sounds like your mom has it down, though.

2. Man, you are preaching to the choir.
Tonight I was taking my FIL to my friend's so she could cut his hair and he asked how much she charged. I couldn't remember, so I said $10 or maybe $20. He says "well, I don't want her 'double dipping'.... getting the $10 from both me and him.

As if that would be the worst thing on the planet. Never mind that this friend cut his hair in her house at his convenience and that I pay all his bills.

4. Mom Was Flummoxed By Something
Her cable, I think - so I told her to call them, press all the buttons at once and yell, "I'M OLD!" She thought it was a good idea.

8. She Got Cable for One Reason - Jon Stewart
Though she now has two - Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert! She's a little too used to the 'old' station numbers, and calls me to ask what number a station is. Problem is, I live in California now, and she's still in KC...

9. I got satellite just for Stewart.
And love Colbert. I'm in KC, too.

10. I'm Sorry!
I grew up in Brookside (Border Star, Bingham, Southwest and UMKC) and lived in Westport until I figured out that just because I was born there didn't mean I was stuck there. True, it took me over 30 years to figure that out ... My mother and brother are still there, poor saps! There are some things I miss, but the weather isn't any of them.

11. We were neighbors.
I've been to a lot of places. Some were good, some weren't. I raised my kids here. I may leave, now that they're gone, but I may not. And weather is everywhere.
