I took my first guitar lesson today.
I told myself that this is the year that I am going to learn to play the guitar. I have fooled around with it, but never took it seriously. This is it! I am going to do it!

Rock on! :headbang:

2. And when you're not practicing
stretch the fingers on your frettin' hand and rub the tips on concrete to build up the calluses.

And keep your nails trimmed, dammit.

6. DO NOT RUB YOUR FINGERTIPS ON CONCRETE.
That is misguided, unwarranted and totally unnecessary.

Just play the guitar. You will do plenty of rubbing the fingers on the guitar strings while practicing. Nothing else is necessary.

7. But I *like* rubbing my fingers on concrete
It's the closest I get to foreplay these days.

3. How old are you and how big are your hands?
What kind of guitar do you have? What style of play is your teacher presenting?

:)

8. I am 43 and can palm a basketball. My palm isn't that big but
my fingers are long.

The guy I am taking lessons from went to The Berklee School of Music. He is Pete Yorn's guitar tech and sometimes plays on stage with him.

I'm going to start out trying to learn the blues! Actually, he told me whatever style of music I am into, he will teach me.

I have an old acoustic guitar made by Cort that I bought for fifty bucks. It sounds pretty good. I also have a Gibson electric, but more about that later.
