I went to a private, Methodist school in my state. Some of my professors got their JDs at Harvard, Yale, George Washington, Phi Beta Kappa, bla bla bla, so I felt pretty good about it.
I was fortunate in that I had a place to live and did not have to work. I am amazed at people who go through law school while working, with families and kids, etc., because I don't think I would have made it under those circumstances.
You have to go into law school prepared to do whatever it takes to make it through, the whole three years. If you don't, you will flunk out or quit. We lost 2/3 of our first year class to attrition.
I didn't really have a "plan" for after law school; I did it for the education. I was 37 when I graduated so I was not attracted to working/slaving at a law firm (they probably weren't attracted to me, either).
I am a solo practitioner specializing in family law and it is a wild ride. ;)
Good luck!
