2. Actually, Khash, a lot of cultures that live in very hard to survive
places typically serve it up to the mother. Sometimes, young kids and the elderly will also receive a helping. Now, as sick as that sounds, the placenta is high in fat, protein and a shit load of vitamins. Even cats eat the placentas sometimes (from personal experience not documented science fact). And, there are some people in the U.S. that have recipes for it.

9. Yeah I know
Like I said, it's very nutritious. And actually very good for the mother in restoring fat, protein, vitamins and minerals after pregnancy and childbirth. Lots of animals eat the placenta - partly in order to leave no traces for predators and partly because of the nutritional value at a time when mother and babies are very vulnerable and she needs that nutrition.

Still seems kinda icky to me though :) I won't be serving it for dinner any time soon.

Squeamish Khash.

15. Nope.
My interest in cannibalism only goes so far.

Besides, she had the baby - shouldn't she get the leftovers?

3. I think this implies that somebody did
"Brasky got his wife pregnant and she gave birth to a delicious 16 oz. steak... The afterbirth was sauteed mushrooms!"

11. Actually,
They made stew.
And used the umbilical cord as a Christmas tree ornament.
I kid you not.

In theory I can see it, but in practice?

10. Yep.
Personally I'd much rather go with an herb tincture, but that's just because biting a big bloody chunk of my own tissues sounds really nasty.

13. Yes, my dear Khash....
there are people who eat the placenta...and I had a book on home childbirth, which I cannot now find. Oh well.....

At one time, I did want to be a nurse-midwife. Not any more, though.

And yes, the placenta is VERY nutritious.....

17. Umm...isn't that cannibalism?
The placenta is human meat like any other. It may be expelled during childbirth, but it's still human flesh. Eating it would be cannibalistic.

I have no interest in eating others of my own species. Perhaps if I were starving on a frozen mountaintop somewhere and my partner were already dead, but not here in normal, civilized society. That's just sick.
