Why is there a Salem MA and a Salem NH? Only 20 miles apart.
I lived in both of those towns at one time or another.
When I lived in Salem NH, people would ask "Where they burned the witches?".

2. Indeed it is. My friends worked the rides and stands during my teen years.
So I had Carte Blanche whenever I went there.
Its a cool amusement park.

3. When they were founded, that was a full days travel
The average human walks at about 3MPH, and in the 17th and 18th centuries that's how most people got around. People don't generally question the naming of Salem Oregon because it's so far away that it's "ok". A few hundred years ago, 20 miles was pretty far for most people (the majority of people lived their entire lives within 20 miles of the place they were born back then).

"You mean the one in NH?" I swear most people think Salem MA is a city/museum that only still exists for tourists and nobody actually lives there.
