All hail the Cat Goddess Minnie! Back for her ninth and final life, prolly
Minnie (some of you know who I mean) is recovering very nicely from Fatty Liver Disease, caused when she tried to starve herself to death because she didn't like the new food I gave her. The new food was to cure her from urinary tract infections and help her lose weight. After six weeks of thrice daily force feedings, she has once again begun to eat on her own, and has been doing this since Sunday, with no return of the yellow coloring that marked her liver troubles. It looks good. I will take her to the vet in the next few days to confirm that she's recovered, but her spirits are back up, and that's the most hopeful sign.

This cat has survived twice being lost in the wilderness for several days (once with coyotes), once having an absess cover a five inch area of her back (for treatment she had holes cut in her skin, and I had to squirt medicine under the holes three times a day, prying up her skin when it tried to reattach to the muscle underneath until the infection went away), a deep depression and period of starvation brought on when we dared to introduce new cats to the household, a urinary tract infection that brought on a more serious starvation bought, and now fatty liver disease, during which three times she was basically given up for dead.

Amazing cat. All hail, Minnie, the Cat Goddess of Survival! Or, as I may call her from now on, the Four Thousand Dollar Cat (and half of that was just this last illness!).

Minnie before the disease (She's still not pretty enough for after photos, yet):

5. She is, and very sweet, too, but still the most annoying cat ever.
It's hard to explain. You know that girlfriend or boyfriend everyone has had who worships you, won't let you be, acts like the world revolves around you, and won't give you one inch of breathing room? The one who tries to drive away all of your friends so he or she can have you exclusively? The one that eventually becomes Glen Close in Fatal Attraction? That's Minnie!

But in a sweet way.

7. I didn't let her out the other times!
She got mad at me both times for different reasons (she's a very jealous cat) and bolted through the door when I opened it. One time I lived in the country around Austin, and she bolted through the door into the woods across from our driveway. We didn't see her for three days, and figured she was dead. You can hear the coyotes howling all night, and dogs and cats are always disappearing in the neighborhood. One of my friends even watched a pack kill his dog (the father of one of my dogs, in fact). After three days, I opened the door, and Minnie bolted back in, skinnier, covered in brambles and burrs, her hair a solid not.

The second time we lived in Austin. No one is even sure who let her out. We just noticed she was gone one night when we fed her and she didn't come waddling. We scoured the neighborhood looking for her. We lived near a highway, so after two days we feared the worst. When we had given up, we opened the front door, and she was sitting on the step, grooming herself casually. No brambles or burrs this time. She waddled in and began eating.

I could write a novel about this cat, turn her into a human, and she'd be one of the most colorful characters ever. In fact, that's not a bad idea...

8. That will be my next expense. The vet says her teeth are horrible.
