1962 prices
Courtesy of my latest issue of "Reminisce" magazine, these are average prices in 1962:

First-class stamp 4 cents
Gallon of gasoline 31 cents
Gallon of milk 49 cents
Dozen eggs 54 cents
Average annual income $5,155
Average new home $18,200

(BTW, I was 2 in 1962, when the biggest story was Cuba.)

2. you could take a one dollar silver certificate to the bank.....
...and get a real silver dollar. Miss Liberty or Peace.

cheezeburgers were two bits and gas was 16.9

a routine visit to the doctor was between 6-8 bucks and they would send you a bill, a broken leg with surgery and a hospital was under $300.

house payments on a nice house including property taxes and insurance were $200.

new cars cost $2200.

miss those silver dollars.........

it's all nicely printed monopoly money now, faith and trust in the us government leads to inflation?

3. Today is a bit differnet
1st class stamp: 39 cents
Gallon of gas: $2.20
Gallon of milk: $3.49
Dozen eggs: $1.29
Average annual income: <$30,000
Average new home: $200,000

The income/newhome ratio is far worse today, and yet it's the home market keeping the economy up...

6. Isn't that scary.
From 3x your annual income to 6x for a new home price.

5. At the rate we are going, prices in 2062 will be:
First-class stamp - $5.00
Gallon of gasoline - $75.00
Gallon of milk - $50.00
Dozen eggs - $40.00
Average annual income - I don't know, but it probably won't go up much from today's figures.
Average new home - $3,000,000
