Poll question: Ever heard of a Golden Birthday??
Edited on Fri Jan-27-06 12:31 PM by Shine
A "Golden Birthday" is when you turn the age of the day of the month you were born, which makes it EXTRA SPECIAL, supposedly. For example, I was born on the 25th, so my 25th birthday was my Golden Birthday. Basically, it's just another reason for celebrating life, so I like them.

I'm curious if others have ever heard of them. Many people I've talked to know about them and many have never heard of them, so I thought it would be amusing to do a lounge poll...It's my very first one. heheh. :)

If you DO know about them, did you celebrate yours in a special way?? Do tell.

3. Good morning, my dear Shine!
I have to say, I've never heard of this before......

And since I LONG SINCE passed my 27th birthday....oh well!

(I was born on Nov. 27th)......

Sounds like a nice idea though.....perhaps you could figure out a way to market it?

Excuse my being so crass and commercial this early in the day!

Nice to see you, as always!

hugs and love to you! Have a great day!

I don't remember doing anything special.

I have heard of golden birthdays though.

5. i've heard of them
and many people i know have heard about them but i've never heard of anything special anyone does to celebrate them besides mentioning it.

I was 2 when I had mine and my parents didn't know about Golden Birthdays. It's something I learned about from others.

7. I knew about mine when I celebrated my 25th birthday on 3/25.
Also, coincidentally, at the time I happened to be living at a house with an address of 1125!!

So, I and a hundred or so of my "closest friends" had a big bash at our house. It got to be too much and strangers came in, who I didn't know. I was so drunk and probably stoned, too, at the time that I didn't even kick them out when I saw them in my BEDroom. Duh. I had been gifted a beautiful new tarot card deck by my friends from work. Also a gorgeous stone egg, by a geologist friend. Sadly, both of them were STOLEN from me, right out of my room. I'm sure it was those people who crashed the party.

I was devastated, but ended up learning some good lessons out of. Too many to get into here, but all in all, I grew in consciousness....which, I suppose, is what getting older is all about, right? :)

A happy ending: my friends got me a replacement tarot deck. Life works.

15. I'm Surprised At The No's!
Is this a regional thing or something? I've known what a golden b-day was since i was a little kid. I actually didn't particularly celebrate mine, but my parents bought me a gold watch. However, i was 23, had gotten my first graduate degree 6 months before, announced an engagement, and started a new job. So, i think it was more a compilation gift than a golden birthday gift.

But I was born on the 1st, so I have no idea if it was extra-special. Considering I'm the oldest child, chances are that my parents thought it was. :)

17. No, but my "golden" birthday was 10-20-1973.
The day of the infamous "Saturday Night Massacre".

I was a junior at college and my Dad called me and told me "put on the TV, Nixon's going berserk."

Daddy despised Milhous as much as I despise *.

25. Hi RA! Here's a thought: when it comes, make a POINT of doing
something special....something symbolic that, for you, represents what you want to pull in for your new year.

I like to do that on my birthday EVERY year, actually.

41. Funny you should say that.
last year, my hubby and I took this same idea of the golden birthday and transferred it onto our wedding anniversary. So last year we had our "golden anniversary".

We got married on June 12 and last year we celebrated 12 yrs of marriage. So, we decided to make it extra special by going back to the place we honeymooned, Maui, WITHOUT the kids. We had one whole glorious week alone together. The longest amount of time together in all those years. It was great.

If we can make it to 50 yrs of marriage then I guess we'll get to celebrate TWO golden anniversaries! Let it be so......
