ACLU Releases Government Photos

The ACLU of Georgia released copies of government files on Wednesday that illustrate the extent to which the FBI, the DeKalb County Division of Homeland Security and other government agencies have gone to compile information on Georgians suspected of being threats simply for expressing controversial opinions.

Two documents relating to anti-war and anti-government protests, and a vegan rally, prove the agencies have been "spying" on Georgia residents unconstitutionally, the ACLU said. (Related: ACLU Complaint -- PDF file)

For example, more than two dozen government surveillance photographs show 22-year-old Caitlin Childs of Atlanta, a strict vegetarian, and other vegans picketing against meat eating, in December 2003. They staged their protest outside a HoneyBaked Ham store on Buford Highway in DeKalb County.

An undercover DeKalb County Homeland Security detective was assigned to conduct surveillance of the protest and the protestors, and take the photographs. The detective arrested Childs and another protester after he saw Childs approach him and write down, on a piece of paper, the license plate number of his unmarked government car.

1. OMFG.

That is so far beyond ridiculous. It's insane.

Hey meat eaters, you should be pissed off, too. This is how W spends your tax dollars. Meanwhile our national deficit reaches record highs daily, we force our troops into an immoral war yet we don't give them enough armor, the already wealthy get tax breaks while our elderly go without basic health care...

Hey, at least Haliburton and Carlyle are posting record profits. :eyes:

Seeing as animal rights activists are classified as terrorists. Why? I guess because they are attempting to undermine the cruelty-based, factory-farming meat industry? Fuggin' ridiculous.

So they fuss over pot, porn and hippies, same as always.

5. All of this is so fucking ridiculous.
I can't believe the polls that say it's about even for those who approve of this spying vs. those who disapprove. It's MADNESS.

I mean, you've got Georgie up there lying his ass off worse than a 9 year old caught stealing money from his mommy's purse about everything under the sun, talking to the country as if we're a bunch of goddamn toddlers with oatmeal for brains--and not even the good kind either-the plain non-cinnommony kind-spying on vegans and peaceful activists--I'm sorry VEGANS??!! jesus god, why? To what end?--anyhoo, spying on peaceful citizens for what? An enemy's list? A brand spankin' new blacklist for the brand spankin' new world? Yeah--that went over real frickin' well the last time Unka Georgie. Let's try it again. :eyes:

How fucking insecure do you have to be?

phew. apparently today is my ranty day. :D

7. Ah, a good hearty bowl of oatmeal will supress the rage nicely.
Unless it's Wilford Brimley. That guy's always mad.

Thanks. :)

8. Well ~of course~ they're looking at vegan rallies.
If ham is made illegal two thirds of the politicians and all of the Republicans in DC would be in lockdown by nightfall.

10. During the Vietnam days
J. Edgar Hoover declared Le Leche League subversive and close watch was kept on members.

For those of you who don't know, LLL is an organization for breast feeding women.
