How come any mention of Angelina Jolie in the lounge sparks a flamewar?

I don't get it. I really don't give a fuck about celebrity worship, but I find it fascinating that so many people seem to project their own insecurities and various weirdnesses onto this person.

Every time she gets mentioned, I see a bunch of posts calling her a "husband-stealing slut," "the other woman," yadda yadda yadda, which is amazingly stupid. A person can't "steal" someone away from a relationship. That's nuts. Either there's problems in the relationship to begin with that cannot be resolved and the presence of a willing partner outside the relationship beckons and provides an escape, or someone In the relationship has a wandering eye. But the notion that Angelina Jolie is some sort of Death Star-esque "tractor beam" that draws men out of existing marriages against their will is blantantly dumb. All men have free will, ya know.

Why does Angelina Jolie provoke this kind of reaction in people? Can someone explain? I'm stumped. :shrug:

I thought her Oscar deal with her brother was a little weird and the relationship with Billy Bob a lot weird, but I think she has grown into herself and is comfortable where she is.

I love the fact that she is adopting children who would have no future. I really admire her for that.

As for the husband stealing, meh, you can't steal someone from somebody unless they want to go.

I just think it's patently idiotic to label her as the person who "broke up" a marriage; in fact I think it's patently idiotic to claim ANYONE outside the relationship in question can do that. To claim someone outside a marrige broke it up is taking a Maury Povich/Jerry Springer-level of maturity in dealing with that issue.

i think women who portray an intelligent powerful sexuality often provoke strong reactions

her work at the UN and the fact that she has adopted two children who would otherwise have no future makes her a very special person.

Who do enjoy trying to seduce married or otherwise committed people. The only woman who I wanted to attack out of jealousy (although I am not sure if it is the right word) worked with my then fiance and had it as her personal goal to sleep with all the guys at the store who were nmarried or had girl friends. She did not succeed with my husband but sexually harassed him for months. The store managers, who she had slept with, were all smitten with her and would not discipline her. I know this is an extreme case, but I have known other men and women like that. I think that anyone who chronically tries to seduce committed people and goes through with it is not doing the right thing.
I am not sure if Angelina Jolie is like that or not. I don't personally know her. I think she is talented. I don't look to Hollywood Stars really to be models of superior ethical behavior.

I am utterly indifferent to celebrity gossip and I certainly share your opinion that they are not to be looked up to as role models.

Those same kind of predators are all over, including this forum. They are to be avoided like the toxins they are.

and so they decide to end it because it would be healthier for both of them. How long a period of time does that person have to wait to be with someone they subsequently fall in love with. Why does everyone assume that that is not what happened with Brad and Angelina?
