12. Who ever heard of a divan potato?

Though I think I did have Potatoes Davenport one time. ;)

We call it a 'couch'. It's probably Freudian that we do so.

14. I Have A Theory
Edited on Mon Jan-30-06 10:40 AM by ProfessorGAC
But, i can't prove it. However, one of the derivations of that piece of furniture could be from the Romans or early italians, because remember eating and commisserating was done in a lounging position.

So, the only place a bench style seating conveyance would be found was in the kitchen. (Slave seating or seomthing.) The name for kitchen is "cuccina". So, the slang term in italian for such a bench is "cooch". (Not spelled that way, but pronounced that way.)

Now, i have to admit, i've never heard any of my italian relatives refer to a couch as a "cooch", but i think that could be the root. The "cooch" was normally used to refer to something like a park bench.

But, i could be a mile from the truth.
