Cox high speed internet tech support just told me:
Even though I've had friends from the following locations email me:

Portsmouth, England
Dublin, Ireland
Winnipeg, Manitoba
and
Some Godforsaken Frozen Nordic Tundra, Norway
Not to mention 4 different email accounts from Cleveland, OH

That the fact I haven't received ANYof those emails, and although my email client is working perfectly, and even though I've received none of those emails on their Webmail either...

"That doesn't necessarily prove there's a problem with our server."

Hold me.

2. Reading this makes me wonder...
I am not getting emails from my friend in Hong Kong. I don't know for certain that she has emailed, but we have written back and forth a few times and all of the sudden I stopped getting responses. That we even have questions about this irritates the hell out of me.

20. Well, a quick trace on mail.cox.com
Which is just a guess as to what their server address is, shows it stopping at one router, which is

lkhndsrc02-pos0201.rd.at.cox.net <68.1.0.37>

or

coxcom.rd.at.cox.net (68.1.1.166)

Depends which server I do the trace from.

Try calling back their tech support and tell them that address is where traffic is being stopped, at least according to my servers.

9. Could be the list that they use
Edited on Mon Jan-30-06 07:31 PM by necso
to weed out SPAM servers.

Sometimes there are errors on that list -- I got cut off once (for days) from a Cox mailserver because this server was put on the list at my ISP.

It got corrected eventually, but it took days -- and the tech that I talked to knew nothing about it. Told him to write down what I said and give it to someone who might know.

More generally, I've seen this happen several times with different email sources (relays), and I've suspected that some of it was malicious in nature.

13. It could be something like that
My email has been sluggish and weird for a week...like, I refresh, no email, refresh, no email...DON'T refresh, 18 emails come through at once. x(

Glad yours got sorted, I hope mine doesn't take *quite* that long though. :(

10. As an IT professional, I can honestly say that they're right, it doesn't
necessarily mean the problem is with their server. It means it's probably with their server, but not positively.

It could be a hub between their server and the addresses of origin.

Since all are from foreign points of origin, there's a possibility that they are being routed through the same router prior to reaching their server. If that router is down, it could explain the problem.

Just a thought. . . .

11. That's just it though
I can't even email MYSELF from another account. It's remotely possible it's not their server, I agree. But if I say that I have nothing to bitch about on DU, now do I? :P

:D

12. YOU got problems-- check this shit out
My cable went out some time Sat evening or Sun morning, and I lost everything-- TV and Internet. I also have Vonage, so I lost my phone, too.

I called Comcast to check on it. They came out today.

The cable that comes into my building was completely eaten through. It's about 1" thick, and it looked like somebody either chopped it or bit through it. The tech said that it could have blown out the whole neighborhood, judging by the damage.

Either way, they're replacing all the hardware going to my building and the building next door. And I had to spend all day at home, letting the 4 cable techs in and out of my building. And I couldn't work from home, either, because I had not internet OR phone.

I'll send you an email. If you don't get it we can be sure the trouble's on their end, because my messages and their tech support are both routed through the same state of incompetence.

25. I have Cox and my HS Internet goes out all the time.
They send tech's out and they all tell me something different. Mainly they tell me that its my computer and they cant do anything about it. I had my PC checked and its fine. They just dont want to admit that its their equipment that goes out several times a week. They'll never say that though.
Cox Communications has terrible tech support and customer service.
What a shame its a monopoly here in San Diego.
