What's NOT to like about Michigan?
Edited on Fri Feb-03-06 12:33 PM by ih8thegop
Aesthetically pleasing Dem governor, two Dem Senators, and the Pistons!

So what makes you think your state is so much better than Michigan?

:P

3. Uh....c'mon now
Two Repuke Senators, majority Repuke House Reps, a moony-faced idiot Repuke Gov and we already have hate written into our state constitution: the gay marriage ban (circa 2004).

How could you not want to come to Georgia???

:sarcasm:

On a serious note, GA is a lovely place to live if you can just block out the wingnuts - home of Jimmy Carter and MLK Jr.

:)

*Stone Mountain, GA 1915 - Founding of the Second KKK.
*Cherokee Indian removal - 1838-1839, part of the Trail of Tears http://www.georgiaencyclopedia.org/nge/Article.jsp?path=/HistoryArchaeology/AntebellumEra/Events-7&id=h-2722
*Lynchings...

But enough about the past - let's get to the present:
*Cobb County Schools putting a disclaimer sticker in textbooks about evolution:
ATLANTA, Georgia (CNN) -- A federal judge in Atlanta, Georgia, has ruled that a suburban county school district's textbook stickers referring to evolution as "a theory not a fact" are unconstitutional. http://www.cnn.com/2005/LAW/01/13/evolution.textbooks.ruling/

And don't try to trump me with election fraud - 2002 our Dem gov and Sen (Max Cleland) had double digit leads but somehow lost to the Republicans no one had heard of before. Did I mention that 2002 was the year Diebold was introduced to GA? http://rawstory.com/news/2005/Diebold_insider__alleges_company_plagued_1206.html

I believe I win. :P

On edit - how on god's green earth could I have forgotten about the 15 year old boy getting a 37 year old woman pregnant and then marrying her because GA has a law on the books okaying underage marriage if the female is pregnant. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11152603/

I mean seriously - all y'all got is Coingate??? Whatevah! :silly:

But I really do love Ann Arbor. Very progressive town with lots of good restaurants and cultural offerings. Plus we've got 3 good NPR stations and Air America to listen to. :)

And I have to say, as much as more temperate climates appeal, I do really enjoy having seasons. And damn it's beautiful here in the fall. :)

53. Bob Taft indicted and convicted,
politically dead. Blackwell has a long ways to go to be governor, the Coingate scandal and being allied with right-wing christo-fascists isn't helping him much. Mean Jeans' days are numbered as every time she opens her mouth she puts her foot in it, and Boner has more baggage then Delay. He will have to step lively to stay out of court himself.

Ohio Repugs are doing the best they can to implode. We're helping the process.

55. if in Charlevoix, go to Juilleret's

I took a self-guided culinary tour while covering a lot of the state. If you are near Charlevoix, you must go to Juilleret's. Tiny little place, but they have like 3 inch thick French toast. I got some Turkey Rueben soup (I know it sounds weird) that was absolutely out of this world. My companion got the French toast and loved it.

56. Those pictures are lovely, but for the thirty years I lived there,
nine months out of each year were cloudy and grey and colorless. By the time spring came (usually late, and still cold) we were all ready to slit our throats from the depressing colorless sunless winter months. I've lived in the Florida Keys for twenty years now, and I haven't been depressed like that since I came here. But each to his own.
I still have some nice memories of the state, and I do miss the long twilight evenings. None of those in the tropics. Once the sun hits the water, it is dark...period.
