why lock the suicide thread?

I sure hope that Feanorcurufinwe isn't thinking anything like that. Listen..it is not the end of it all. Many people hurt for years after someone does that.
If you are thinking about doing something to yourself, don't! All things will pass, and many people would be happier and better off if you stay alive. I guess this is probably wrong to be posting this, but I felt a little uncomfortable with your poll question.

and it is a very good policy--that DUers are NOT EQUIPPED to help people thinking of suicide.

They should seek help from the appropriate professionals, not from DUers.

Admin locks as Jchilds stated because we are not formal help but also unfortunately we have some reall assholes who will post something entirely inappropriate to a despondent person. I don't think any of us wants that on our conscience if they are serious.
