I'm at the Library and Everyone Here is Talking on their cells

It has just become common for everyone to just talk on their cells in the most public places.

I don't think I want everyone to hear my conversations like that.

I don't think I want people to have access to me 24 hours a day. I like a little personal down time. Like about 8 hours a day - plus I turn my phone off at nite.

instead of the screamers that always seem to sit behind me.

And where are the people saying "uh-hm................yeah....................uh-hm...................really?..................hmm.................is that so?..................she did NOT.......................yeah....................hm.......................No he DIDN'T........................hm................your what?.....................3 days?........................hm.................uh-hm........................uh-hm........................................yeah I'm still here."?

Why do *I* always sit in front of the person on the OTHER end of that conversation who doesn't shut the hell up for 25 straight minutes. Not once. Non-stop innane commentary, in a loud voice.

I was picking up books for myself and my SO and I TOTALLY forgot the title of the one he wanted. I ducked way in the back of the stacks and tried to whisper, but I was still mortified just on principle.

Classical, very nice. I probably couldnt hear my phone with that and the air conditioning/heating going.

It IS a library, after all.

When I have to make a phone call in public I sort of pull over to the side and yap there. It's fun. It's like the yapping area. :D

but I'm VERY quiet, VERY discreet, and I get off the phone as soon as I've determined S.O.'s interest in a particular title. If the weather is okay, I'll do outside to do it.

If not, I'll keep it to the absolute minimum. "Psst! It's me. I'm at the library. Any interest in "(some cruddy book of Hollywood/Theater andecdotes/book on the North Pole/book on shipwrecks/Civil War book) Yes/No? Okay -- bye"

I don't even use "voice-mail". When I want to be reached, I can be reached.

probably just just off the phones a lot more than I do. But I'm alwys afraid that she might need me.

Mothers with kids they need to keep track of and all, etc. But the "hey whatcha' doin'?", "Me?, I'm at the library annoying everybody then after I leave here I'm going to a restaurant to annoy them, and you?", "Yack, yack, yack, yack and blah, blah, blah". You know what I mean?

That's pretty interesting.

I love saying that I don't have a cellphone. Yes, I am totally unreachable at times. Expect a callback within 48 hours...I've got a lot of crocheting, catching up on my coast to coast am podcasts, and picking my nose to do. Yeah, I saw that was you on the callerid to my land line, but I know you didn't want anything, that's why I never called back. What did you want anyways? Oh, nothing. Just as I suspected. What if I have an emergency, guess I'm SOOL then. I like surviving. Cellphone, shmellphone, kiss my a$$. Cellphones are for suckers!

It's like people can't pick their nose without calling home anymore.
