RIP "American nuns in El Salvador J Donovan, I Ford, M Clarke and D Kazel
I had also realized Tuesday was 23 years to the day the 4 American Churchwomen, Jean Donovan, Ita Ford, Maura Clarke and Dot Kazel or Dorothy Kazel.

At the time I had found the whole "churchwomen case" strangely disturbing and maybe I ought to have realized the real scandal was the United States allowing war criminals like Generals Garcia and Vides - Casanova to emigrate to the States.

Divine powers that be bless them for having the guts to opt and act on the side of the impoverished and powerless in El Salvador.

1. I'm shocked it's that long ago
Thank you for remembering.. "A rose in December"

Also, Archbishop Romero.... what a incredible person! I remember where I was when I heard, also.

Yes, all thanks to the U.S. of A.

3. Vaguely recalled something about a protest where 1 protest sign read
"AMERICAN GUNS KILLED U.S. NUNS"

May we all dream of a White as in Robert (the human rights championing American envoy who was undoubtedly outraged about the whole case) Christmas.

2. They were honorable women and truly heroic Nuns
They are models for Catholics to look to in their work for social justice.

The Vatican pretty much quashed the whole "Liberation Theology" movement in South America. In this country it was smeared as "a bunch of communist Priests and Nuns." I wonder if that is one of the reasons their anniversary is not commemorated.
