What to give freeper relatives for Xmas
Edited on Mon Dec-01-03 11:56 AM by GinaMaria
As I wait for the yearly Xmas news letter with digs about Al Gore, the virtues of *, and whines about the libral media mixed in with pictures of the kids' ballet recitals, I need ideas.

1. Easy!
Put them on a list as brain donors.

After all, some people are willing to pay damn good money for an unused one!

7. LOL
That's great. I could do my sneaky grandmother's trick. she made a donation to the Reagan library in my bros. name as a gift. My brother worked for Clinton at the time. He was mortified.

16. That's actually as great idea. Donate to GMHC or Lamda Defense Fund

9. A copy of Lies and the Lying Liars who Tell Them.
by Al Franken. I have really been enjoying giving this book as a gift. It really freaks them out and since they are relatives they don't know what to say which makes it even more funny. And you never know...one or two of them may actually read it.

some of those godawful tie designs make a lot more sense now. Of course, if I actually wore ties, I'd take the J.Garcia line over that crap any day!

21. Seriously
I suggest history book/movies to help people get educated.

Books on critical thinking.

This video is a must for every american: Uncovered: The Whole Truth about the Iraq War.

There is also a book called something like Iraq for Dummies.

Educate, educate, educate. Do it nicely and it will be worth it.

22. Some people are beyond education.
Think about if someone got you "The Bell Curve" or some Clinton-hating screed. Would you even open it up? I probably wouldn't. I doubt freepers would be any more open to Howard Zinn or Noam Chomsky--let alone Al Franken or Michael Moore.

I think the best gift to give a freeper is a donation in their name to a worthy progressive charity or nonprofit group and tell them that the gift you're giving them is the vicarious feeling of doing something for the good of humanity for a change.

Welcome to DU, by the way!

29. Thanks for the welcome!
I think I would read it. Actually, I read the Bell Curve.

I think you could still educate if you give books that are not obviously liberal or written by liberal authors. And perhaps someone in the household will read it and change their minds.
