2. I ran off to California without telling him.
Literally got in my car and drove halfway across the country. I figured he'd figure it out. Mean, huh?

It was for the best. Now I met my soulmate in Life, and I hope he has, too.

PS-just told him I wanted out.

8. Ha Ha! "You Americans are so naive!"
I broke the engagement with Mrs. Amok (cold feet), but we eventually tried again (so far, successfully).

I don't really remember how I did it, but I remember it being face to face, and not very pleasant.

6. Oh my. Yes.
We thought she was pregnant.
That was back when you HAD to get married. Or at least you thought you did.
Then she found out she wasn't after all. We decided to re-think our options, so it really was kind of a mutual thing. I sure don't think I broke her heart.

Funny thing is, AFTER we broke up I found out all my friends thought she was a complete, ostentatious, social climbing bitch and could NOT imagine WHAT I saw in her. Now they tell me.

I guess it was physical good looks and knockout ess-ee-ex.
;-)

7. Bet you all kept the rings, too... Really cool!
I also bet that none of you ever came home from work to an empty house! A bunch of spoiled brats who think your behavior is cute.

11. My second stepmom did that to my dad...(slightly off-topic)
My brother and I who were both in elementary school, came home one day to our stepmother literally emptying the house into her dad's motorhome in the driveway, and within minutes, they were off, with tires screeching. Dad didn't know what she was even planning until he came home from work and it was all over.

12. Nope. I gave the rings back, and the motorcycle he left at my house
I just did not want to marry him :)

Truth told.. I was afraid of what he might do if I told him face to face.. That way he had a few days for it to soak in before he came and got his stuff.. (He lived 3 hours away)

15. A stealth divorce is different from a broken engagement
Back when I broke mine, people did not live together, so it was not as mean as what apparently happened to you.:(

16. I mailed mine from the road.
I was afraid to give it back to him face to face. The one time I mentioned splitting up he smacked me on the head with a telephone receiver, hard. So, yes, I took the chicken's way out.

10. Yes ... it was somewhat mutual ...
We broke it telling eachother that we would get re-engaged when the timing was better. I'm pretty sure he knew it was the end, but I'm not sure if he did. A month later I gave him the ring back and that was that. No regrets; he's married with children now and so am I ... it never would have worked out between us.

Oh, and when we broke it off we had no definate wedding plans in the works (even though we broke it off six months after getting engaged). I guess that should have been the first sign it wasn't going to happen!

:hi:

14. I moved back home with Mom and Dad...and let the answering
machine take the calls. Then filed a police report. Best move I ever made.

17. Yes. Not gracefully.
Eventually told him I couldn't marry him. Ensuing breakup exceedingly messy. Fortunately, shortly thereafter I met the man who is man enough to be my man.
