Sports fans - do you root for your hometown team?
If you're from another area, do you still root for that team? Did you inherit your team choices from your parents? Do you adopt whichever team is in the town you live in? Why and when did you start liking the teams you like?

Me-I'm pretty boring. I like the Eagles, Phils, Sixers, and Flyers. :D Hometown teams all the way.

1. Packers fan living in Detroit...Not always an easy feat. They pick
on me for cooking outside in winter. We always did that back home.

I'm not much on the Brewers but count me in on anything Badgers.

That's where they met. They are die hard Cubs/Packers fans (I inherited it) but now I have to root for the Panthers over the Packers.

10. Hey - they are still #2. And a hard one at that.
That HAS to count for something. The ONLY time I root against the Pack is when they play the Panthers.

(My parents have a 'share' of the team, too)

I think they gave them a deal for a game or two when they moved out of playing there.

I think they still go to 1 or 2 games a year.

8. My hometown team is the Rockies
Need I say more?

I didn't think so.

I'm not the only one, either. Coors Field's attendance numbers get lower every year.

Nuggets are the joke of the NBA. Most of the time. The last couple of years, I understand they've done better.

Broncos I'm sick to death of. You'd think that they were created by some supreme Football God or something. People around here need to get a grip, already.

The college hockey teams do better, attendance-wise, than the Avalanche. They get more (and better) press coverage, too. Of course, they aren't fussing over money and haven't had any recent lockouts.

Hometown teams are good and all; there are a lot of places that don't have teams to root for, but sports loyalties aren't always geographical. At least mine aren't.

12. I was born in PA but moved here very young (Twin Cities)
I love the Twins and Vikings, I like the Wild and the Timberpuppies. As far as college football, it is the Badgers, and for college hoops I am a Gopher fan.

If and when we move out to SoCal (more likely when than if) I will remain loyal to my teams - It is just going to cost me more, since I will have to get the extra sports packages from the cable company. There is a Viking fan club that meets close to where we will be moving though!

30. Usually the underdog, but it's not a hard and fast rule.
I usually do lean towards one team or the other, but it's kind of nice to enjoy a game without having nerves and anxiety over every play. When I follow a team, I tend to get VERY emotionally invested in it, so it's nice to have a break in football. :yoiks:

but my parents really didn't watch sports, so i kind of found them myself. For example, my dad went to Ohio State, but we didn't really watch football. I started watching it myself, and now I'M going to OSU. I'm a bengals fan, for some odd reason, though it paid off this year. And my hockey loyalty is split between Columbus and Detroit; I root for them both, until they play each other, then I stick with Columbus.

But I wouldn't change loyalties now. Doesn't matter where I might move, I'd stick with my teams

I am not from Los Angeles, I'm originally from Brighton, New York. I just fell for the Dodgers as a kid, hated the Yankees, and picked up the L.A. ball from there. Followed the Rams to St. Louis, but other than that it's all L.A., all the time (Lakers, not Clippers).

Raised in a Vikings home.

I haven't followed major league baseball in years, but I'd still root for the Twins.

I'm not into basketball...and I haven't followed NHL since the North Stars moved south.

edited to add - my loyalty stayed with me even when we moved. Of course, Idaho has no professional football team anyway.

Last time LA won a championship anything was in 2002 when the Angels won the world series. But even that was because we won against the NL West and they suck more than all the LA teams COMBINED.

I root for all the Chicago teams in some form or other. I haven't moved out of the Chicago area, so i've never been faced with changing allegiances. I don't think it's boring to root for the hometown team. Just part of being a fan, i think. Better than changing every 5 years because one is a frontrunner.

Remember i'm 49. I've seen two champsionships in the 40+ years i followed pro sports. Now, the Bulls are a different matter! And, for many years (i've changed a bit) pro basketball was my favorite pro sport. Now, i think it's #3 behind football and pro golf, but there aren't that many touring pros from the Chicago area, so there i just have to like who i like. (I guess i'm a front runner there, because i'm a Tiger fan! I plead guilty!)

coined her "11th commandment" around this very concept. My brother moved his family to MD and they still root for the Red Sox and Pats. The 11th commandment according to my little sweetie is "If thou were borne in Red Sox nation, thou must forever hold thy allegiance to thy nation's holey (pun intended!) sox."

Hey, she's 13. She's allowed to be silly!! (But Aunty MA Native confesses to being in total agreement...)

70. Nope
I'm 90 miles from San Francisco (grew up about 15 miles further away) and 300-plus from LA, but I've been a fan of LA teams across the board since I was a kid.

I think I did it to get back at my dad, who was a die-hard Giants fan. Plus, Sandy Koufax was my idol — hell, he still is. Plus, I couldn't stand the Willie Mays worship that poured from the mouths of Russ Hodges and Lon Simmons inside that old Zenith radio.

Funny thing is, I don't hate the Giants anymore. I want to beat their asses, but I don't hate 'em.

Note, though, that I don't care much about football anymore, and basketball has gone right into the dumper. (I was a HUGE Lakers fan in the days of West/Baylor/Chamberlain and a few years beyond.)
