1. Relax. Breathe deep. And when you get to Vancouver, breathe deeper!
My family's from Manitoba, and I have a feeling we'll be back BC way eventually!

2. This won't help you
but I WISH I was in your position. I thrive on spontaneous, out of control chaotic situations like that partially bc they end up being the most fucking fun you ever have in your life!!!!!

Also, sometimes cleaning the fucking slate is a huge mental catharsis, especially if you find the lifestyle you've been leading has been less than true to yourself (me alot of the time)

adventure, and a whole new life for me...but along with being excited, I admit to being scared shitless, too. :D

5. I don't know about you but I was being serious :)
Like anytime I have 5 or 6 grand saved up I'm apt to pick up for a year and drop out to live in my camper van. Its fun as hell and you meet a different sort of people that way too...more genuine in some ways

:)

Pardon me if you're serious, my responses tend to be so oddball that they end up as sarcasm bait alot lol

7. Oh, I'm totally serious
I love going on long trips to places I've never been. Moving anywhere is always such an adventure... When I moved to Arcata from LA, I'd only seen the place I moved into at night, and I actually moved my stuff in at night. I woke up the next morning and went into the kitchen and looked out the window and there was a HUGE redwood stump in the back yard I hadn't noticed when I moved in. We're talking 15 feet across.... cool stuff.

On the downside, I read a story about some guy who bought a big parcel of property when there was like 3 feet of snow on the ground. In the Spring he found out it was acre after acre of stumps :(

Will you be going through Seattle? If so, I'd love to meet you on your way through. Heck, if you need a break, you could even stay here for the night. Let me know.

Oh, and breathe, girl, breathe.

Stopping at Benicia, CA to visit a friend for a day or two.

I think I go thru Seattle but I admit I haven't done my mapwork yet.

Will let you know & maybe we could meet up for lunch or din-din? Thanks!

Which goes right through Seattle! And I live a mile from I-5. Woohoo!

6. Congratulations!
My best experiences have been fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants. I moved to California from Vermont 7 years ago with $300 and a beat-up VW. Oh, and two dogs. I had no job and the only person I "knew" out here, I'd only met via email.

Best move I ever made. Deep breath, close your eyes and jump in! :woohoo:

Picking up and starting fresh somewhere else soooo fun. I used to do it a lot before I got all encumbered with house and family.

I'm jealous, in fact... wish I could persuade certain other people to move to Vancouver...

Have FUN!

Most times I'm so excited, fresh new life.

Then other times I think about the fact I have no job (but I'm an accountant, I know I'll find something...but being an accountant means I'm anal enough to worry about not finding somehting, lol!) and what if nobody likes me & I don't find new friends and and and...!

Sometimes I just gotta smack myself out of it.

And my destiny. :)

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know who to choke the shit out of if they get in my way.

That one?

I'm small and you'll hardly know I'm there. :D

Seriously, though... Sounds like an adventure, I understand your being nervous and excited. Ride that natural chemical rush all the way into Vancouver woman! I envy you the excitement you'll experience on the road ahead of you.

I'm going to send along some good wishes and karma to help get you there safe. :hi:

37. I envy you.
I wish I could just pack it up like that but I am way too emcumbured right now so I will vicariously through you. There is a song by a local guy that I know the goes,
I had a map
Underneath my cap
But I lost it long ago
Ain't no worries
I'm in no hurry
I got no place to go.
The song really moves me. It reminds me of my younger wilder days when we could launch off on a road trip with barely a second thought. Good luck and godspeed!

41. Lynn, you are SO going to love Vancouver -
I keep hoping BC, NWT & Yukon Territory will kidnap Alaska, Washington, Oregon & California - and we'll all kick ** ass.

The people are wonderful there, the scenery is unimaginably beautiful, and customs is kinda funky but no real hassle. I went through on a thoroughly overloaded motorcycle looking like 2 days of riding hell (it had been, downpours, road construction, mud and I was beat) - they were very courteous and even got me out of the rain!

You'll know people inside of no time, and make friends even faster (after all, you ARE a DU'er!). Very best of luck, and keep us posted, OK?

44. Remember...
long deep breaths...

You'll be fine. You'll have your DU family for support whenever you need it.

Stay positive, organized, and focused. Remember to prioritize your goals when you get there. Job, place to live, bank, etc. Also, keep a journal and takes pictures of your journey.

In no time, you'll be settled and be the envy of many here :)

Prayers for your safe journey. Have fun! :hi:
