Defenestration.
Anything like that ever happened to you/ I have had two (minor) incidents, neither of which involved being thrown. At the beginning of college in the second week, we were playing a pick-up game of Ultimate between two dorms. I was chasing the frisbee, and my world narrowed to the frisbee, which had been over-thrown. I ran at full speed into the girls dorm, and my left arm went through the lounge window. Campus legend at the time had several people inside see that:evilgrin: Cost a couple stitches, a couple scars, and a nickname.

Then at the end of college in my senior year, my room mate and I were horsing around (we got along famously), and he locked me out out as he did sometimes. I ran around to the outside to get in the window, but he was closing them all. We fought over the last one, with him pushing on the frame from the inside, and me pushing on THE GLASS from the outside .......

Another couple of stitches.

Really, the two experiences nicely bracketed my time at undergrad college...;-)

2. Sounds more like the opposite of defenestration...
You were throwing yourself INTO the window... not throwing something out of it. Sounds like it hurt in any case. And, yes, I have a nice scar from having done pretty much what you did in the second incident... cost me 17 stitches.

10. No, but I'm getting ready to present a piece, "The Defenestration...
of Chet Baker"

It's one of my favorite words, and he's one of my favorite musicians.
I'm sorry that it happened to him, though.

11. I'd be interested to read that.
I've always loved Chet Baker. What an interesting painful life he had, and you can hear it in his later music. That guy can really rip your heart out.

12. Thanks, but it's a multi-media piece for trumpet, piano, steel...
tape manipulations, video, and video projections.

He was such a beautiful and tasteful player.

And it seems that he will never get a fair assessment.
Always so many ridiculous arguments used against him:
-received acclaim in his early days only because he was a handsome white dude
-not a very good technician because he preferred ballads
-was too sentimental
-only appreciated now because of some kind of doomed junkie death cult
fetishism...

of course, that's all horseshit. The recordings don't lie.

14. I see. I misunderstood. Good luck with the project.
I'd like to see the end result when you get done.

13. The Defenestration of Prague
is possibly my favorite historial event of all time...or at least my favorite event that started a war.

I love the fact that the English language has it's very own word for throwing someone out a window!
