My lost kitty's been found - thanks for the good wishes!
I just got a call from some people a few blocks away. They found my missing cat, Molly, and saw one of the signs I'd put up. I just brought her home.

Thanks to those who expressed good thoughts - we appreciate it.

2. Hey Dookus, I didn't know about Molly being gone
So sorry that she was gone, but am doubly glad that she's back. I know how much she means to you (I remember when you got her, after Polly). Give her an ear scratch for me!:hi:

8. without a doubt...
she had a collar, but her nametag broke - just rotten timing. But luckily, a number of VERY nice people in my neighborhood took care of her and she's back home playing with her big brother. I'm SOOO relieved :)

9. YAY! And: forget collar/tag: HAVE HER CHIPPED
Take her to your vet to have a microchip implanted. Best protection for a lost pet.

Congratulations!

12. Aw she looks like my Muffy did when she was a kitten.
I'm so happy you found her safe and sound. I guess I missed when you lost her. Muffy lived to be twenty years and she was such a wonderful companion all those years that we grew old together. I know Molly will be as wonderful too. You can't beat tabby cats for their loving, gentle natures.

14. Great news, Dookus!!
Your little Molly looks just like my Ricky Retardo. Funny thing is, he took off for a few days a couple of months ago. Maybe it's something in the orange tabby genes! He returned at 3am -- crawled into bed like nothing happened. He tore the screen on the Arizona room (screened in porch) and came in through the kitty door. I was so happy to see him.

I agree with the advice to get him chipped. If he is found by a shelter or taken to a vet's office, he can be traced to you.

Go love your baby! She is adorable!!!

18. Thanks cher...
Yes, it was a great moment. This is the second time in my life I've lost a cat. Both times I put up signs right away and both times, people have helped me recover my cat.

It's amazing how many cat people there are out there...

20. Woo hoo!
So glad to hear that! I always hate to get people's hopes up, because frankly after 48 hours your odds of finding them start dropping, but we had one go AWOL at about four months. She sneaked out the door and ran around the back of the building while my husband was looking around on the front stoop and behind the bushes for his Sunday newspaper. I was in the shower when it happened. We didn't notice she was gone for a couple of hours, so we had no idea which way she went.

She was gone almost three days. We put up signs and showed pictures to the kids in the apartment complex where we lived -- they promised us if they saw her, and if they couldn't catch her, they'd at least try to chase her toward home. We walked all over the apartment complex calling for her, rattling treats in a can, carrying a can of tuna, but she never called back or came out.

She was spotted at a couple of places on the other side of the complex, but none of the kids was able to catch her, though I believed them when they said they tried -- she was fast. She finally turned up in the neigbor's dry-docked car -- she'd crawled up in the engine compartment. I'd come home from work for lunch, and I just happened to think to stop before I unlocked the door and call her for a few seconds -- and she answered, for the first time in about three days.

She'd been scheduled to be spayed and microchipped two weeks from the day she wandered off. We honestly didn't think we'd see her again, so we were really thrilled she showed back up.

23. Happy to hear
that you found yours, too. It's pretty scary when they're gone, isn't it? Molly's just about the most perfect cat I'd ever met, and she replaced my old girl who passed away last month. Yesterday was my boyfriend's birthday, and we were both so upset about Molly we didn't do a damned thing to celebrate.

Next weekend we'll have a big ol' dinner.

25. Tink got leftover pot roast -- most of my lunch.
I was happy to give it to her. She grew up into a beautiful but not very affectionate cat; she's six, and rules the house now (we have four cats and a dog, all of whom she's 'the boss of') with an iron claw. I love her dearly -- she's one of the most magnificent 'mutt' cats I've ever seen.

24. What a sweetie!
I'm sure she's as glad to be home as you are to have her home - though she would never let you know!

Time to get her fixed! She's a pretty one and probably will have a line of gentlemen callers outside your door soon!

28. she's already fixed.....
I get all my cats from the pound (which is probably why I'll never get a Maine Coon) and you can't adopt unless they're fixed and micro-chipped.

She just wandered because it was the first time she'd ever been left without people. She was found at a couple days old and hand raised, then given up for adoption at the pound. She LOVES people..... I almost didn't go away, but I thought she'd be OK. I was wrong, but it turned out well anyway.

I have two other cats, one of whom is Molly's bestest friend ever. They played for hours today after I brought her home, and he cried and cried while she was gone. I thought she'd be content without me home for three days, but I guess she went looking for people.

Actually, I met four people who'd cared for her during her disappearance (which lasted from Thursday 'til Monday) and all of them raved about how friendly and sweet she is. She's really really friendly, which is good, but also scared me, because I thought somebody would easily take her.

The picture above is from when I got her, and she had a cold. Now she's bigger, fluffier, more beautiful and even friendlier. She's just amazing.

Anyway... thank you all for your thoughts. I was really despondent last night, but getting that call today made it all better.
