Dose anyone know anything about caning?
No, not hitting people with sticks, but about repairing a cane-backed chair. I got this dining chair to go with a Queen Anne style desk when I was a Jr in HS (1965). It wasn't used much until about 3 years ago. We moved, didn't have as much space, put the desk in the DR and use the chair at the computer desk instead of the more bulky high-backed swivel office chair we used before. Anywho, I'm about to fall through the back. Hubby says he'll fix it, although he's never done it before, if I can find the cane. Would Home Depot or Lowe's have it. I prefer not to buy online if I can avoid it. The seat's getting worn, too, but I can fix that.

1. I don't think they would have it.
You might look in the back of a furniture/woodworking magazine(found at Lowe's or Home Depot).
There's probably a company advertising caning supplies.
If you lived near me I could refer you to someone who canes.
They only charge about 30 bucks.

2. Thanks, will check
books, maybe something from the library. Guess the issue may be finding the material.

3. I remember my mom talking about watching her FIL "rough" cane
an old ladderback. Sorry, can't remember the type of wood used. The key was keeping the wood wet, though.

The Foxfire books would probably have the info.

4. Oh, good idea
used to love to look through the Foxfire books. That was in my "back to the land" phase in the '70's. They'll be a good resource when the oil runs out. :hi:
